An Edmonton Oilers fan says some Calgary Flames fans beat him unconscious after Saturday night's game between the two teams.
Andrew Parker, 22, says he was walking home in the early hours of Sunday morning wearing his Oilers jersey when the attack happened.
"The only thing I said was, 'How about them Flames'," said Parker. "Then, two of them got out and started beating me up."
Parker suffered serious injuries including a severe concussion, a fractured cheekbone, broken nose, and damaged teeth.
He was able to give police the licence plate of the vehicle.
Police have launched an investigation and say the attack is an isolated one and not part of a larger trend of fan violence.
Flames president Ken King called the attack repugnant and says the so-called fans should return their jerseys and stop coming to the arena to watch the games............................................. ...........................

We all like to have a little fun and take a shot at our rivals from time to time, that's part of the battle of Alberta.
When you hear about crap like this, that's stepping over the line and it's not fun anymore.
I hope these guys are caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

630 ched had a segment on this incident this morning and I didn't get to listen to all the callers but I know that the first guy that called in was stickin up for these punks saying that the victim shouldn't have said anything and that you don't taunt the bull or something like that. Made me sick that there are actually people out there that would stick up for 5 guys beating up on one 170 pound dude regardless if "how bout the flames" was all that was said or not.

Reminds me of Don Cherry stickin up for Marty Mcsorley after he wacked Brashier (right?) sayin that you don't go taunting an "old warrior"

My sister lives in Calgary. She moved out there 4 years ago and with her she took her Oiler pride. A while ago when I was down there, her and I took my year and a half old nephew for a walk. Well my sisters stroller is an Edmonton Oilers stroller and while I was off chasing the dog (damn thing keeps taking off ) Two little punks started pestering her because of the Oiler logo. Yeah that quickly ended when I showed up as I don't accept any disrespect to my family. After a couple swears and other derogatory comments the two children about 19 or 20 took off.

The actions of some idiotic pinheads shouldn't tarnish the rep of the city but it does. These little pukes are everywhere and they only seem to be getting worse.

However, you have to cheer for your team properly. Wearing your teams jersey and cheering for your team is one thing. Flaunting and goating the others teams fans when they lose and you win is another. Fighting should never be a option or the answer but when dealing with peoples pride it is no surprise it happens.

This has absolutely nothing to do with hockey! It could of been anything to set these 'punks' off. Don't use hockey as a scapegoat for why you won't let you kid play hockey.

I thought it was a Coilers fan!! While not funny at all, in the paper it said the guy was beat up on 2 other occasions- maybe he is just lippy.

I agree 100% with you Tuc. The key part is "FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW". It is high time we started getting serious with the thugs that are running loose on the streets these days. The justice system must start making huge public examples of criminals like these.

I don't care if that guy stood on the street telling these guys their momma wore army boots. There is absolutely no reason for 5 guys to do this to another guy. Sounds like 5 cowards found someone with a few too many drinks under his belt and they took advantage of it to make themselves feel like men. All it did was demonstrate what tiny little cowards they are. I guarantee that if any ONE of them was presented with an opportunity to defend their team in a gentlemanly one on one round of fisticuffs they would likely **** themselves.

I really do hope the police put forth every effort to hunt these animals down and make sure they get to spend a significant part of the year in prison.

Am not a big hockey fan but go to as many C.F.L. games as possible and tell you what we have quit taking the boys to any Rider games,, I can not beleive some people,, no respect for kids or anyone as far as that go's I have had my youngest when aged 7 taunted and actually pointed at and ridiculed when walking into Commonwealth for wearing his E.E. jersey.. We have seen the city police have to come in and break up fights in the stands.. It happens in all sports,, seems like people with no life's themselves get takin over by someone else's being a teams and can't control their emotions,, its whats called being a looser...

Walleyes I also am more into the CFL and will not take my boys to Calgary or Edmonton because of the rude fans. Took them to the grey cup in Regina in 03 they were 3 and 6 at the time and have never seen such consideration in my life. The crowd would run right over me but would miracuously open up for the little guys. GO RIDERS.

Probably just the couple experiences we had when Sask was in town pitw,, but like I said we don't take the young ones to the Rider games anymore.. The oldest now 18 go's with a few of the boys from home (all ex high school football players themselves) to the games,, funny how the lip stops when them boys roll into the stands..

Well boys, on a brighter note...the Flames snuffed out the Oilers chance for a play off run tonight!

It is sad to see something like this happen,but if it is true about him being beaten up twice before,he may be someone that contributes to his own problems.Perhaps he said things that were much different from what was reported?

Unfortunately, for the most part if you want a quality experience at both the Flames and Stamps, you have to stay out of the cheap seats. I assume this also will apply in most places.

The Stamps have deliberately low balled the prices of the seats, so you seem to get that segment of society that can afford it. Mix that with Beer/Booze and you will have one rowdy place. On the plus side, if you are worried about taking your family to a game, just take them to the family zone. Lots of room but Dad doesn't get a beer.

I have no worries taking my kids anyplace in this city or to any other sporting event. I just pick my spots.
As a example, I REFUSED to sit in the bleachers at a LA Dodgers game. Now thats a bad place. So we paid a bit more, got some good seats and I was able to take both my Dad and my Son to their first MLB game.

I also wouldn't take my kids outside the Ranchmens at 2:30 in the AM

As for this beating being a reason someone didn't let their kid play hockey... That is WEAK!!! Hockey is not near as bad as what the media would have you believe. We had nothing but a very positive experience this year and the whole time I played, I don't recall anything happening that I would call life altering. In fact I found it showed me the value of team work. I think some parents who don't want their kids in hockey, just use the politics and BS as a excuse as it does require a huge commitment from the parents.

I am from the segment of society that can only afford to sit in the cheap seats at an NHL game, unless I am given some tickets to the better seats. On the most part everything is usually alright. I enjoy the cheering and the atmosphere at the game, I like the blue collar crowd at the Oilers games. The only thing that is worse than sitting next to a guy wearing a suit and acts like he is at a funeral, is sitting next to a obnoxious drunk. I go to the game to have a good time and thats it.

Gman. My comment was not meant as any sort of a slight. I also spend a fair amount of time in the "Cheap" seats. But you have to admit the higher you go, the crazyer it gets. No matter where you go to a game.
Someplace in the middle usually works just fine.
Not that I EVER would turn down club seats to Flames game. Now thats a tough ticket to get these days.

yup cheap seats suck.....i have turned down tickets because i do not want to sit in the cheap seats and hear all the swearing and fighting and get beer spilled all over me and my wife......that is why i really enjoy the family section at commonwealth. seems to me when i have been to the games up there and sat in the family section....that it is just that..a lot of families there to enjoy the game, the weather and the experience. i think all stadiums should have a family section.......

x2 you never hear the whole story.I could spend all day telling of my encounters while wearing my jersey or flying my flags....but i don't exspect any differen't because i live behind enemy lines. Sure a shame if the poor kid was just minding his own business.

I don't think we can label hockey as the reason this guy got beat up, if you're gonna beat up a guy for wearing the wrong jersey and excercising his right to be a little lippy you're probably gonna beat a guy up for any other amount of reasons.

With that said I played hockey for a lot of years in both small town and city competitive leagues and I too won't be putting my kid in hockey if I have any say. I go back to the rink now and again to watch my little brother play, he's in a top tier league and it's fast exciting hockey but the BS in the stands is usually enough to keep me away for a while and don't think I could do it on an ongoing basis as a hockey parent. Pond hockey's where it's at
