Default Help in determining an gas well distortion locate

Major distortion was marked less than 25 meters straight south of a sweet gas well. The owner of said gas well won’t comment on the marking of the distortion.

Those I know in the industry have never seen this particular signage before. This company is decommissioning this well and just looking for any information on what this may be.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

I have never saw that marking either… perhaps they ran a smart pig at some point and it was marked to scope out as a learning as part of the abandonment?

Without knowing more that’s only a guess. It’s not something a locator would typically mark off, and not likely that company will disclose unless you talk to their land group if you are the landowner.

On second thought, It could also just be a distortion on the signal, perhaps there is something else buried there that is making the signal do funny things.

This well is at the end of the line, flow line runs straight east... Well has only been active since 2000, they are abandoning this one and the others in the area. It is on my property, I am making zero progress dealing with the owner.

Thanks

Is it an orphan well? Could be a cut-fill locate to abandon pipeline. Lots of orphan sites will do the bare minimum and only abandon pile in a cut-balance point.

No the well was active till about a year ago when it was shut in waiting on abandonment. There is no other pipelines in this area that are recorded on title.

I wonder if there may be a casing failure that has created a distortion to the South of this well.

Thanks for the reply

This is more than likely the case. Probably doing a 4 way sweep and found an abnormal signal. They’re obligated to note anything out of the ordinary as part of the sweep. Maybe something, may be nothing. Just my thoughts.

If it’s an old well, something may have been buried in the mud pit after drilling.

the locators picked up an anomaly is all, they mark everything they find on their blind sweep.
