Default Taking Toddler for his first fishing trip

Hello all,

I am planning on taking my five years old to do some fishing around Edmonton this spring. Do you have any suggestion to where is a good place to wet the line from shore and hopefully for him to catch a fish or two?

When I lived in Edmonton I used to fish Whitemud Creek right where it joins with NSR, should be narrow enough your little one can cast it ... I would catch pike so you might want to take them off the hook for him.

There are lots of reservoirs around the area stocked with trout. Every town has one it seems.
Cardiff reservoir 10 minutes north of Edmonton. Easy to fish, nice park like place. Also has a playground if your child gets bored. Worms 3 feet under a float should catch a trout. Cast spinners and small spoons too.

The river can be a great place to learn too. Lots of areas that are safe for kids to fish from.

You can use this to see when ponds are stocked and find what is close to you. The stocking reports are listed in PDF at the bottom of the page and get updated throughout the year as more lakes get stocked

On s safety note ,glasses , hat, and no barbs on your hooks!!
The hat will protect his head ftom a messed up cast, and the glasses will protect his eye area. In the event that he dies get s hook somewhere , barbless will come out far easier,
I have been involved with numerous issues with these over the years. , involving both protected and unprotected people!
