Default Camble River fun.

Well I was fortunate enough to make it out to the west coast last weekend. We headed out to Camble River on the 1st and fished the 2nd 3rd and 4th. Considering the time of year and location we did quite well, better than anticipated actually. Our main focus was not fishing for salmon but to do some prawning and fish on the side.

The prawning was excellent to say the least, jumbo prawns galore. Half to ¾ pail fulls for a 4 trap set were not uncommon. The only problem was my dainty little hands took a kicking cleaning them. By the 3rd day they were cut up and bleeding I honestly don’t think I could have taken another day of it. But in the end it was well worth it, they are tasty little critters for sure.

We a did quite well on the winter springs as well. We landed 7 fish between 2 boats, not bad for this time of year and really we probably only put in about 10 hrs of actual fishing over the 3 days the rest of the time was spent prawning and goofing around. The nephew and I put 4 fish in our boat all together. 3 in the 10 – 12# range and one shaker. They are tasty fish those winter springs with beutifull red meat. It was a treat to land a couple salmon this early in the season. If the rest of the season keeps up I can’t wait till my August run to Sooke.

Here are a few pics to enjoy.

Bucket full of prawns

Close up one of the critters.

Nice 12# winter spring

Couple more dandys.

Couple from the other boat.

The boys scrapin a nice one.

Yah they are nice tubs. The one in the pic is the brother inlaws 2825 and his sons the nephews run a 2425. Both very nice fishing boats. I'm glad we had them if we would of been in my boat we would not of made it out to the fishing grounds the first 2 mornings. We fought 4 foot breakers to the side both mornings and evenings. That old Jonhston straight can get nasty at times. We crossed over to Twin Islands from the harbour and its quite the crossing in foul weather.

Way to go Walleyes. I don't envy your sore hands but I'm definitely jealous of the great prawn feasts you're going to have. Nice salmon for this time of year too.

Thx guys,, it is allways a treat to head out west and enjoy what the west coast has to offer all Canadians.. All it takes is a little home work and as few questions and I think we can turn any reader on here on to some good fishing..

The best advice I can give anybody wishing to head out west is that " it is a specific time and place fishery" and not just a place to go at any time and place and fish.. Do your home work, ask questions and listen to your peers,, it can make or brake your trip.
