Default Closest Salmon fishing to Canmore Alberta?

My buddy and I would like to know where a great spot (guided or not) would be to go salmon fishing....close to Canmore Alberta. I know the West Coast is the best spot to go but do you really have to go that far?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pretty well the west coast, unless you want to fish for Kokanee Salmon, in that case they're only a couple hours west (Fairmont)

I have seen them caught out of the fraiser and the clearwater.....never caught one myself but I'm hoping to change that this season.
But the Clearwater is pretty good!

In our pre kid days, the wife and I would take a 4 day week end to Pender harbour. Day one, drive like hell, catch the Gibson Ferry and be there by late evening. Days 2 and 3, fish just of shore in a rented boat, dawn to dusk. Live bait and beer. Lots of action with salmon and other fish. Day 4, drive like Hell, back to Calgary.

Go in the Summer to Chilliwack/Harrison/Aggassiz.

More salmon then you will ever see!! Just bottom bounce for Springs and Sockeyes and have you limit in a few minutes.

Wow!! I fished those rivers for 30 years, never saw anything like that.
Where the heck were you fishing? Sport fishing or net?

You won't be allowed to keep any in the Fraser this year...the sockeye run is expected to be abysmal.

Peg Leg. North end of CHWK, no nets, just hook and bottom bounce, one day no "Fishing story" i caught 50 salmon. haha

Also the mouth of the Harrison was great, and above the Mission bridge we snagged a few 10'+ Sturgeons. I just went with guys who were fishing nuts...i didnt appreciate it too much at the time, but miss it now.

Last 2-3 years the sockeye seasons were relly short openings.
