Likewise. Don't fill the hole in. Leave it visible, it'll freeze over in a couple days. Nothing worse than stepping in a landmine when your buddies think it's funny to cover them with snow.

That's true if you drill a hole all the way thru the ice. But the OP was about holes drilled only part-way through, in order to create an auger-stand. In that situation, definitely fill and pack, or mark clearly. Even a minor snowfall and a bit of wind will create a crust over the top of such a hole, leaving it as a hidden ankle-buster.

Certain places I go fishing it is hard to avoid people without walking a mile. I don't really need to know what the different groups of people are talking about even when their voices travel a distance but I think proper etiquette is to at least speak english.

Sometimes I sitting in a tent it sounds like I am in Russia or the Phillipines. I thought english was the official angling language here. The regs are written in english.

One of my MAJOR things is people who let young children run around with no adult watching them, especially littles. I've seen this with large groups, the adults all partying and laughing in the shack while the kids are outside. If anyone's ever stepped in a snow covered 10 inch hole before, you will know that a three year old can disappear down that. If my fat leg can go down that, a small child can.

As a sledder I agree.

I stay far away from other people when I'm on my sled.

Last week at St.Anne someone thought it would be fun to buzz within about 50' of our setup and just kept buzzing by, over, and over, and over all afternoon

I am a big advocate on clean.....whether ice fishing or from shore. Ice fishing, I throw in a fan rake in the truck for peanut shells, trash etc.

One time I drilled a couple holes and looked near where I was, and some a-hole guy had drilled a hole and kicked his trash into it...

Who says they were operating a vehicle? Perhaps they were a passenger. Perhaps it was even prescribed. I agree that nobody should ever operate a vehicle while impaired in any way. I also agree with common courtesy when smoking ANYTHING around other people.

Agreed. The smell of cigarette smoke makes me barf. Quit that crap 10 years ago. Quit drinkin 3 years ago the smell of alcohol on someone's rotten breath brings back awful memories but I have to tolerate it everywhere I go it seems. Personally I love the smell of good weed so I guess if you are close enough to smell me or I can smell you, take it down the lake another hundred meters like I would do. Respect people's space or find another hobby. My 2 cents. 😉

I totally agree.

Move along. Go find somewhere else to fish.

I just like my own space and I hate seeing garbage specially fishing line and seeing beer cans.

The world is shrinking by the minutes for space to move around in the outdoors, so everyone has to treat others like they would like to be treated.

Help others if there stuck and one day you maybe that guy so karma does a big circle in life.

Be good to each other and always even if you meet a butt head on the ice ,be the better person. Shows what your made of.

If you see someone having issues with their auger, offer to drill some holes with yours. I’ve made some good friends by doing this very thing.

I would suggest that you ask the people who are already setup.

Out of earshot of normal conversation. Laughing and cheering I don't mind - I love hearing when the neighbour lands a nice fish but I don't wanna hear how their mom's doing while I'm in my tent.

#20: read other people’s body language and take hints. Some people don’t want to chat while ice fishing. If someone doesn’t seem like they want to BS, leave them alone and don’t watch them fish or try to give advice. Some people are friendly, others are not. Some want to talk, some don’t.
On here I see a lot of “use common sense”. But also use basic social skills too... as a community of outdoorsmen we need to respect each other as well!

God i walked passed everyone on new years and i said happy new years to everyone. some people don't say anything in response.
I suppose i'm more of a morning person then everyone else.

I love it when I see people land fish, especially when mothers and fathers stand back watching there kid reel up a big hog. The smile I have when i hear the word "FISH ON!" I always give a thumbs up from a distance.

LOL that’s a little bit antisocial 🤷🏻*♂️ What can I tell yah. Sometimes a greeting can go a long way! Despite being a morning person or not, replying isn’t a bad thing lol

Setting up you tent and tip-ups right on the vehicle trail.
Or leaving your vehicle right on the trail.

Not a problem when the snow is low or melted down a fair bit.
But when the snow is deep in that area......

The difference is one takes a few to get impaired. Neither is acceptable.

Many small stores near popular lakes stay open in the winter to support the ice fishing crowd. Support them and good Karma will come.
