Default Anybody know how to blacken stainless steel

I have a SS barrel thread protector I'd like better black.
Tried 3 types of cold blueing and some aluminum black no change.

Anybody have suggestion? as a last resort I do have some flat BBQ paint.

Is there anybody that can do a small part?

I was hoping somebody had a home remedy with Drano or something

Barret at armacoat can do it. Paint is certainly easier.

* just noticed you're in Lloyd, I would pay a visit to insite arms. I'm sure they do some form of spray and bake finish

Stainless takes a special mix of blueing salts and is only good for stainless . Standard blueing salt for regular gun steel will not touch it. Therefore not may of us have set up to blue stainless steel.

I think I'll give the paint a try for now
I'll talk to Insite see when they are building a black gun. Not really a big deal the bright shiny cap really sticks out on a black gun it's in the exotic 13.5X1 LH thread not so easy to find.
