Take it to F&W.
They will do an examination/autopsy, if everything looks like it wasn't killed by a humans hands, you'll get a permit to take it and get it mounted.

Not so sure a diseased dead bird should be handled. Rubber gloves and mask a must if you handle the bird. Some bird diseases can be transmitted to humans or humans can become carriers that might transfer the disease to pets or livestock.

I know in cities and some counties there is a concern and they test found dead birds if there is an abnormal amount of dead birds. Maybe try to observe if there are any other dead birds or critters in the area. And you ask if you can move the bird...if you mean legally, take some pictures of the location and the bird in situ and before you remove it but call F&W to get clearance first. You will need to have F&W permits to get the bird mounted. A taxidermist might want to know what the bird died from before he handles the carcass too.
You will need to be prompt too because in summer temperatures the flies will quickly make the eagle a nest and nursery.

Ok guys quick update. Called F&W , they said take it to office when i can and they will look it over. Same process as a deer skull or anything else. Also, the bird seems very fresh still no noticble degredation at all. It now resides quadruple bagged in my freezer until i can get it in to F&W and figure out what else to do with it.
Seemed way to much of a shame to leave it behind. Will post a pic tomorrow.
I believe its a big golden eagle but im far from a bird expert

Same thing happened to me a turkey hunting on the farm back in Ontario. Well in my area they put up over 500 wind turbines. Well walking back to the bush I noticed something laying in the bean field over near the wind turbine. Getting closer it wasn't moving. Once I get up to it I noticed it was a bald eagle. I called mnr and they told me to bring it in so I did. I told them my story and the guy asked what I was going to do with it and I said I would get it mounted and he said " that will make a cool mount, thanks for bringing it and telling us about it " so I got my Tom mounted with the eagle grabbing It.

Anyone else find it interesting that when all is said and done, the crown owns the bird? And to pass it on to a family member requires another fee and more paperwork....

Seeing as how the bird is deceased with no obvious problems that lead to that condition - it may very well have been diseased!

May be different in Alberta but in Ontario you just have to register it and bring it in for an exam. They probably just wanted it and told you that lol

I picked one up years ago, a juvenile bald eagle looks like a golden eagle. A bald doesn't get his white head until he is about 5 years old. If I remember right, the difference between them is the feathering on the legs.

A friend of mine explained this to me, the Sask gov't has a museum list. If the gov't wants a bird for a museum, they take yours.

Definetlly a golden. Wingspan measured in at 6'4" with a 1 7/8 talon lenght. Magnificient bird
I have decided the cause of death must have been from anticuagulant gopher poision. Only reason i can think of the the bird would continue to bleed without clotting as i observed the next day

Hesitant to bring this up. You don't say what kind of eagle you found, but I have always heard the Bald Eagles are kept by fish and game when reported and turned over to first nations people for religious ceremonies.

Yes, nice mount , nice to see something in the talons other than a rodent/rabbit etc.
Seeing them together reminds of an old poster from years back that said something on the line of " It's had to soar like an Eagle , when you work with a bunch of turkeys " .

At one point they were seizing dead eagles, for Native "ceremonial " purposes.

When I found my great horned owl I took it into f&w. The officer examining it was running his hands up the back and pulling some of the feathers out. I said "your pulling the feathers out of my owl". He just looked at me and said "it's not your owl". My inside voice said "you blanking knob" but my outside voice was silent. Still makes me mad thinking about it.
