What is this?
Buddy stopped by today to look at his garage sale find.
He thought it might be an antique kitchen doodad.
It looks like you put something in the bore and push down to force something out. Screw on ring must have held a plate or screen etc, but is missing
Any thoughts

How big is it? Could we see some more detail of the metallic part on the bottom? Thanks.

Buddy took it home after I snapped a few pics.
Wings are each just big enough for a hand maybe 9" wide end to end
Bore is maybe 2 1/2"
I will ask him for measurements and better pic

Looks a lot like a butter press. But not exactly like the versions I've seen.
Butter presses were used to squeeze the last of the buttermilk out of the butter and to form blocks of butter.
I'm thinking this may have been used for a similar product that was stored in glass jars.

Oh ya, I seen them before!
It's an ol' time pecker crusher ... they used to use them to extract information.
From what I hear, it worked pretty good.

The google goggle app.
Put a picture on google goggles and google will tell you what you have.

Guess if we could see what the label said, might have a better idea.

To me it looks like something to put a cork in a bottle but the sizes don't seem right.

looks like it screws onto a jar for example , would/could it be used for pressing cucumbers into a jar when making pickles , or loading olives etc.
As has been said ...corking , but it would be too wide , although the height looks about right .
I wondered about if it would have been used for crushing shelled nuts to extract the oil , hard to tell in pictures ,but the top of the top looks like it might possibly have have been hammered on ( wooden mallet ) , but the inside looks basically clean , nut oils or berry juices would have left staining .
I wondered about something medical ( home use ) but I sure there are/were a thousand different things that might have been used that I and I would make the assumption that most people don't know about . So ....
And lets really go waaaaay out in left field and suggest it was use for pushing an piston into a cylinder .... can you see any markings the say " Henry Ford " , or " Ecoboost "
I bet though , when you do find out , it's probably going to be something very simply . Please let us know .

Total guess but...
Going by the brass, I’m going to say it’s something from a sailing vessel. The overall shape could be indicative of a device designed to work with ropes. Perhaps even braid them?
Cool find whatever it is.
