Default I finally did it...

...I bought my first bow. I went with a 60# Bowtech Carbon Icon that I purchased at Jim Bows Edmonton today. Gotta give a huge thanks to Carson and Dave for all the help. Very smooth process when dealing with them, and very friendly, absolutely top notch service. Two of the most approachable and nicest guys you'll meet.

I'll get around to posting some pics soon.

also, thanks to everyone on here that answered the questions I had in my previous threads and various PMs I sent out. I'm obsessed with archery and you're all to blame haha. So excited for hunting season.

Right on man! I got the same bow and can honestly say I LOVE it!! Another shout out for Carson and Dave both great guys. The shop can get busy sometimes so go in when your not rushed if your looking for a new bow. Archery is definitely addictive, but it's cheaper then shooting rifles all the time.

If you set the top pin to 20 by moving the housing around the rest of the sights should be at 30, 40, and 50 yards if you bought the RAK package. At least mine were anyways.

I'm just saying mine were all on and I got the exact same setup from JimBows. So in saying that its worth trying to sight in with just moving the sight housing first and not to adjust each individual pin. Mine was probably just coincidence but the pins should be at least close to where they need to be for those yardages.

Congrats on buying your first bow. Looks like you got the hang of it quite quickly. Look foreward to a thread from you in the future with your first biggame bow kill.

Congratulation on your first bowfitzy17.

One thing about a bow is that it really hones your hunting skills and the accomplishment and self satisfaction derived from taking your quarry with a bow is second to none!

Congrats on the Bowtech.

I am a huge fan of both Bowtech and Jim-Bows.
A good first starter animal is a Moose-large kill zone and in full rut not as likely to jump the string

Just keep calling at the moment of impact and have some sort of sturdy cover(I learned the hard way)

right now I've just got it set to 52#, Im likely going to increase it to 60..When I do the increase, do I have to re-sight in my pins? or should they be fine?
I honestly don't know the answer, if i had to guess id say I'd have to make some slight sight adjustments.

Ya you will have to resign. Probably not much. Someone with more experience correct me but you may need new arrows too because the change in lbs will change your arrows spine making them too weak. Maybe post what your arrows are with spine and length and someone will be able to chime in

I'd be interested in this as well. They never said anything about buying new arrows when I bought the bow if I upped the poundage, so I will be disappointed if it's a recommended practice. Would have only bought 6 cheaper arrows and saved the money for later when I upped the poundage.

If jim bows never said anything its probably a moot point. What's your bow set at Raab?

I believe it's at 54#, I can't remember what he said exactly but I know its on the lower end of the range as I wanted a nice smooth draw.

Default New arrows?

With a new poundage, depending on your draw length you might need a different spine rating, no? From the graphs I've seen, I'm right on the edge between two recommended spines, so if I increased my poundage by 5-10# I would need new arrows.
Might not matter too much though....?

Proof is in the pudding....when in doubt a stiffer spine is usually the way to go.

thats kinda what I figured

I punched the numbers you gave me into ontarget2 and the spine rating went from too stiff to too weak,

ive had a lot of luck with OT2 with all my arrows(I go through a lot of bows so I end up having to paper tune every 6 - 8 months) paper tuning perfectly within a few shots/rest adjustments

kinda sucks having to shell out money for new arrows but its probably better then banging your head against a wall wondering why your groups went to poop.

on another note what accessories does bowtech have with the RAK system now?

4 pin sight, rest, quiver, peep and release loop. All I needed to buy extra was the arrows, release, and a case. It was $749 for the bow with the RAK package. I didn't think that was half bad considering it's a carbon bow and the weight on it is 3.2lbs IIRC.
