A very good striker fired pistol is the Walther PPQ!

Haven't shot one of these myself, but people rave about the trigger!

I picked the s&w m&p 9mm. My second hand gun will be something a bit more pricey. Maybe a 1911 that only comes out for the holidays?

I wasn't too big on the revolver's yet but that will probably come.

So what do you guys think is a reliable, good shooting handgun that is in the 1k dollar range that would be decent for a first.
I picked up a FNS-9 Long slide a while back. $500. Comes in .40 as well.
Read lots of reviews and vids (hickock45 has a great review) before purchase.
Great gun! Reliable. Accurate. Easy takedown. Came with 3 mags and two varying size backstraps. Really fun gun to shoot! Zero issues!
Own a Colt Competition 1911. $1200. After a couple hundred rounds everything seemed to fine tune. Really enjoyable short gun.
In the end, look for a gun with a reliable reputation in your price range and check them out for how they fit you.

I picked up a Ruger American in 9mm recently.

I enjoy shooting it. I get a bit better groupings vs the Glock I was eyeing.

It feels big in the hands compared to the Glock (which I like) but seems well built and a good bang for the buck.

Frankly speaking you should buy g17 ,CZ75 ,S&W MP ,Jericho 941 ,Walther PPQ M2 ,HKP30L ,SIG226 all in 9mm and then in few years you will be expert in this matter and post here which guns you like the most with full review.
If you buying any of above mentioned and planning shooting couple 1000 rounds a year-it wouldn't matter what you bought-at this low count of shooting they all will be good and reliable,
Buy whatever gun you fall in love from first sight-in any case all of them cheap (*****s)entry guns.(after few years of shooting you will decide if you need 3.5K and up guns) Hope I helped you to make decision .Cheers
If you want meet me in Edmonton Phoenix range I can bring few guns for you to try.Just pm me to arrange meeting

I bought a shadow 2 in Feb. Just under 8,000 rounds and it has been flawless. A couple ammo related stoppages and that is about it. I went over 3,000 without cleaning and it didn't miss a beat. Very happy with it.

I highly recommend the new S&W 2.0. 600 bucks and they are awesome. The new version is much better than early M&Ps. They shoot great and are not expensive.
