Default Humminbird Fish Finder

I installed a Humminbird 597 HD DI unit in my boat and it worked well the for 2 days and then it started acting up when I started the engine the screen would go blank. The only way to get it restarted was to unplug it and plug it in again. then it would be fine. Can any one out there offer any suggestions as to a possible cause?

Mine will do the same thing occasionally, but I don't have to unplug it, I just hit the power button again. I believe it's from cranking the motor and losing it's full electrical load due to the engine using power to start. I try to turn mine off before starting, when I remember...

How old is your battery? Was it fully charged before? My Lowrance does not turn off but does send a low voltage alarm when I start.
I installed a second battery this year, one for starting and one for running the toys, now do not get the low voltage alarm.

Yep obviously due to the engine drawing too much juice from the battery. Shouldn't have to unplug the fish finder though, just turn it back on.

I get the same issue when I use my trolling motor when my battery is low, even though it can still run the fish finder for quite a while if I run the motor then there isn't enough juice left for the fish finder.

I also have two batteries and I went one step further by adding two perko selector switches. Now I have isolation between cranking and my dash/electronics and I can still choose either battery for both. I also have a third battery amidships for the troller. So far it works great.

Get larger starter battery or new(if old). Or, ideally a separate battery for electronics.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I need to replace my batteries. They don't seem to charge fully.
