Default Faaaaat burbot

Holy chart! i caught moby dick through a 8" hole!!!!!!

Was out at sturgeon lake looking for perch and walleye (which i found lots of!)
I had a huge fish on but it got off. Hmm pike?? I re bait my little jig head with a minnow tail and send it down again. A few minutes went by and he was just on!!

Got it to the hole and spent 5 minutes trying to squeeze him though! I had his head in the hole but he was right stuck! I grab some balls and go arm pit deep in the ice water and grab gill! I pulled HARD and he reluctantly came up

WHAT A HOLE STUFFER!!!

35" length and a 19" girth!!! My old rusty frozen scale say's 15lbs. Feels like it could weigh more

The fish is all skinned and filleted. I weighed a 10lb and a 20lb dumbbell with the scale. It seems to be right on.

That means i pulled a world record Lota Lota for the 12lb line category though the ice......

Mmmmmm world record burbot

I hate to be the berrier of bad news but that is not heavier then Sean's world record burnout . He to is a member of this forum.

http://www.igfa.org/records/Fish-Rec...TR&Fish=Burbot

By the way world record is 25 lb 2 oz .And Alberta record is Burbot 18lb 11.8oz Marie Lake 2004 .

But a 15 lb burbot is a solid fish no matter what .

Nice catch.

Here's my TRUE fish story. I pulled a burbot out of the Slave River, just below the wear(spelling) with a head larger than my own. I was about age 14 at the time. No pics. So if you don't believe, I don't blame you.

Its not a all line class world record.

But it could be a 12lb line class world record. The current 12lb line class WR is 14.1lb

It dont matter to me though...All that matters is i got lots of fish to eat

Wow, congrats on a beauty fish. I've looked up the line class IGFA world records. These are the line classes available for them and the weights needed to break the record. 35inch by 19inch could possible be 15lbs.
You may possible be looking at the 20lb line class world record. Would be cool if another albertan can get a new line class world record. most people dont realise they have a record when they catch one.

My brother and i have caught 4 in the 20lb category. the first 19lber we took to a local taxidermy and they reuined the fish trying to mount it. the 2nd one we let go, then caught the 25lber in 2010,last year caught another 19lber and kept it to try to eat. When we cleaned it and cut the meet in chunks we could see a metalic glare in the meat. we ate a chunk and seemed ok. gave the other chunks to some friends. I wouldn't be keeping anymore over 10lbs personally, none the less the meet tasted fine.

Thanks guys

This finally ends a long search for a true HOG ling. I have caught many 5-10lb eelpout but never one like this. Last year at this lake and another i had a few close calls with some serious Burbs, one that got off in the hole that was quite a bit bigger then this old gal. I normally wouldnt keep a fish this big...buuuuut, Come'on, its a fat burbot!

I was really thinking about getting this guy mounted, but shoulda's woulda's and coulda's are all it is now...and food.

And yea she tastes normal, we just kept the back straps to cook. The tail and belly are froze and will be smoked. So much meat on those fish!
