Just a stab in the dark, but my best guess is that Hardy lines are likely made for Hardy by Airflo, only because Airflo owns the European market?
There are really only 4 major flyline manufacturers, the Big 4 if you will....Airflo,Rio,SA,and Cortland.Almost ALL "house brand" lines,ie,Sage,Hardy,Orvis etc are subcontracted thru one of those big 4 and then marketed under whatever label?

Yes there are knock offs. Stillwater Solutions tried to get some fly lines made out "east". It was a flop and they don't sell them any more. Amundson also makes a very cheap and crappy fly line which is manufactured out "east". Even the friends of mine that were Amundson reps wouldn't use it.

Stillwater Solutions is Phil Rowley and Brian Chan's company that sells, fly tying books, flies and "specialized" fly tying supplies. Here is a link to the Stillwater Solutions site.
