Exclamation whats the deal with bearspaw?

So my buddie and I go down to bearspaw a couple weekends ago. come in the bowness route. didn't mind the walk from the parking area, saw a nice red fox. but now its fenced off and the parking area is behind the fence. so as the masses seem to be doing we hop the fence and go fishing. we finally get to the res and its got 2 high end ski boats ripping around! so it seems this res is for rich folks access only.If you live on it, you have killer access to a "private lake", while your average dudes access is cut even further. I would like to know how come i have to sneak in (the other access is not much better). is this res privately owned? I don't think so. I also made the mistake of showing up at glenmore res at the rowing/canoe club with a canoe on my truck. not a very warm reception there either.

I Know Eh! This is complete garbage in my mind. Just cause of a few stupid people not watching their dogs, the trains have won.

I don't think it has anything to do with the dogs. They deemed it a unsafe crossing. I have a hard time believing that considering the crossing at Edworthy is has a lot of traffic and a poorer line of site. Word on the street is the commmunity across the river didn't enjoy the train whistle. Could be a case of the same as above the dam, higher income benefits. Shame they closed it considering how much use it had every day. Been using that section of the river for most of my life

I'm not sure it's a good idea to say this on here..... but a pair of bolt cutters will open the fence back up. lol.

I'm honestly surprised, that someone has not used their beater truck and mowed the fence down.

Bearspaw is a pretty sad state of affairs.

I go to the canoe club at glenmore with my canoe pretty regularly to fish.

I give off a pretty strong, don't **** with me vibe and have never had a problem.

Just make sure you read the 22pg document identifying all of the by-laws. They are a pain in the ass.

must be wearing pfd
must have all your safety gear (given)
can not fish from docks
can not anchor or moor
can not exit the craft or go ashore anywhere except the 3 docks on the lake
can not enter the water

and so on...

fortunately there is no rule about crossing the rowing lanes...

you are not the only one thats run into this inconvienence, i too am ****ed cause i loved to fish the bearspaw res regularly. i understand that some users take unnecessary risks crossing when the train is too close and see it from CN rails point of view. from a local users point of view i wonder if they can give us access back by extending that road that leads up to the shriners building(i think thats what its called) by the pump station. i only say this is because if you drive to that area i noticed they have expanded the parking dramatically so there would be plenty of space for vehicles and a bonus is you are already on that side of the tracks cause you would have to cross the train tracks using the overpass so nice and safe everyone would be happy right? the only thing is the city would have to do construction at the end of this road and run it to the bearspaw entrance. i would even be happy if they made a bike path to there and just park the vehicles at this new expanded parking. but i am just thinking out loud.

I had to walk up from stoney trail bridge this spring. I fish this reservoir a couple of times per year, so it is a big inconvenience for me compared to what it used to be. Now, with the fence, access is much more difficult.

On the day in my post, I did actually end up turning too early and ended up on the shriner side of the tracks. i knew it halfway down but thought maybe i could park and walk from there. saw my buddie on the other side waving but wasn't sure my truck would be ok left there. it would be ok public access and on the walk in side of the tracks. no one would have to cross anything unsafely or hop a fence. but i was afraid if i left the truck there it would be towed when i got back. Although i was glad to see my vehicle where i did end up parking it upon my return. Sucks that i have to worry either way.

Does anyone have any new info about bearspaw? Is this an entry point? It appears to be on Municipal land...

That is private and posted everywhere.
No trespass. No parking. Tow zone. Video surveillance.

Have fun parking and trespassing on private property to get to that entry point

That was a point of entry many years ago but not any more. Those landowners have her sewed up tight.
