About 350... Though I'd imagine most experienced guys/fly tyers have more than that. Most of those are in about 20 patterns or variations of those patterns.

250-300(?) Atlantic salmon flies, mostly from flyswaps.2-300(?) dries,100(?)nymphs,and cpl hundred streamers(?).....sooooo...probly about 100x more than the 5-6 favorites that I actually use 95% of the time?

Eight hundred to a thousand I would guess, wouldn't be close to that if I didn't tie.

Stillwater box alone probably has over 1000 flies, and counting. River inventory is probably closer to the 750 mark including dries. Pike count is probably close to a 100. Saltwater count is probably close to that as well. Im constantly at the tying bench so those numbers change daily.

In BC I mostly river drift fished for salmon and fly fished in the lakes.
I probably used about a dozen flies.
Since moving to AB about 10mnths ago and diving head first into fly fishing ....I have accumulated approx 1000 flies so far and counting.

dammit. My river count is crazy low. I pretty much tie for each trip/day. Never really have much more than 40 streamers at a time.
Dries are not really necessary out here so I don't keep many of them either.

I last counted two seasons ago and I was at 760 dozen or 9120... I am sure that has gone up in the last year. That being said I use only 10-12 patterns typically.
NOTEMake sure you photograph your flys for insurance purposes, when I worked in a tackle shop that was the number one purchase that would make the insurance company question when we were doing a claim. It's really easy to come up with $3000-5000 in flys at retail prices.

50. No need to stockpile flies. I tie what I'm going to use for each trip.

x2 on picture taking for insurance purposes. Underestimating your collection is a huge downfall on insurance claims. Companies really dont understand the whole 2.25 PER fly, and that racks up pretty quick. If you tell a company you have 2500 dollars worth of flies they wont buy it unless you have proof. If i lost my lake box alone i'd be out 2500+/- Dollars.

I only got 50 flies if that. I tie them when I need them. I got thousands of fly hooks though just nothing tied to them yet. I used to have hundreds of flies I just went through them these last 2 years

Jesus, i thought i was superfluous. How many patterns can you possibly have? Are you tying in dozens or hundreds? You could probably make some decent money selling em.

man, I feel so inadequate. LOL I maybe have 150, dry, nymphs, and streamers altogether. I've learned how to cast, I've gotten moderately good at undertanding the river, but I have absolutely no idea about flies and entemology beyond where a streamer might be more appropriate than a nymph and to give dries a try when fish are rising. If you asked me to pick out the Blue wing olive in my box I couldn't do it. Seems tremendously complex and daunting.
I just go to my fly shop and say "Give me something that will work on the Sheep"

i'd say i'm in the 2000 ballpark at any givin time. i'll usually tie a bunch of flies up when my wife wants to watch a movie together. keeps me occupied and i can range 20-60 flies a movie.

I have thousands, although I am cleaning an awful lot out as a donation to a charity. I was a commercial tier for many years and you do accumulate a lot especially those that don't turn out perfect. For my own use I tend to have separate boxes for Dries, Nymphs etc and a few boxes for different species and locations. It seems in this sport you do accumulate a lot over time. I also doto give away a few on the water to others that are cordial. I also to study the Entomology and am always fooling with patterns to match the insect life I bring home.

I estimate that I have too many to count.
Let's just say that I have 10 full fly boxes. Who knows how many flies per box? I am not about to start counting them.
