Default Rod for Trolling .....

Looking at setting up another rod in the boat for trolling ....

I ordered a Okuma Cold Water 153 DLX line counter star drag reel ....

now I need a rod for for it ........

Likely will be using it both on the Downrigger, and, occasionally, with a Dipsy diver.

I have run stiffer/faster rods on the rigger and more of a medium power/medium action for the Dipsy in the past and liked it. All my trolling rods are 8'-6" to 9'-6".

Targets are Lakers, Gerhards, etc....

What rod length and action do you like for this application and why?

If he does that he'll have to turf the Okuma line counter reel and get one of those wicked Zebco closed face reels to properly pair up with it.

The Okuma Cold Water - left hand - was $100 on-line with free delivery.

I did consider the ugly stick / Zebco spin caster ..... but I thought I wasn't ready for such a high end combo yet.

I can't seem to locate any Shimano Technium rods that might work for me, but it seems they have discontinued some models that would have been suitable for my application - so I'm back to square 1.

I run techniums 10'6 with moocher plus 2000's and taloras 9'6 with tekota 600 reels for lakers.

I would suggest you look into a Talora based on what you will be doing.
Good luck
