Info on Rock Lake north of Hinton

Does anyone know or been to Rock Lake north of Hinton on the forestry trunk road ie: road conditions going in, boats allowed (gas) and is it a big or small lake, camping, fishing of course etc. Any info would be appriciated.

The road going into Rock is a good gravel road and you are allowed to use gas motors on the lake. It is a fairly big lake and it does get really windy there. Your best bet is to head to the far end of the lake this time of year and you will see hundreds of 2-5lb lakers. Use a black leech and bounce it on the bottom. The camp ground there is really nice and there is quite a few stalls. If you visit the lake after june 16 make sure to hit the hay river along the road. Good luck

The road in gets pretty damn rough. I am not sure if the road has seen a grader in the last 5 years. Very nice spot though. The lake can get very rough as a result of high winds.

The outlet stream from the lake contains pretty good numbers of whites and athabows.

I was up there just over a week ago and there was still plenty of ice on the lake, and it was thick.

Flygirl prefers to fish with a bobber and a minnow-lol-but when she pulls out the fly rod she is the best caster I know.

I was their last year and was nailing the lakers with a full sink line and working the shoals on the far side of the lake from where you launch.

They do enjoy the small black leeches

Something about a bobber that just sets my heart aflutter lol, But ahhhhhhhhh a fly rod and a 2lb rainbow or Atlantic Salmon on, priceless. Having a blast with my new Amundson 10 foot flyrod. Just a little tricky when you want to change spools in the pontoon boat.

Hi, me and my buddy are thinkin about quading up there and seeing if we can't hook a fish or two. Would we be able to walk along the lake to any good spots. Or are there any spots from shore? and is it even worth it to treck all the way out there.

Lakers on left of inlet creek in June in shallow and some pike..left side of lake in weed beds pike to 15 ..out deep by spring on left 50 fow use jigs lakers(drift) .. on right in shallow by trapper cabin leech and streamers etc trolled work well..if you anchor in creek inlet and drift back Rocky Mountain Whitefishing can be World Class.. you will see them sometimes .. rainbow and Bulls from river once in a while.. Laker was caught in the 20# range afew years ago..Wind can be wicked.. old growth campsite very special

Just keep in mind that the lake is in a wilderness park, therefore no quads.

I caught a dozen smaller lakers ( 3 lbs) from shore on tiny little chronomids in 2-3 ft of water on a point last time I was there. It was a hoot!

With the winds do you find it safe for belly boating / or using your pontoon boat?

I was out in my 12 foot pontoon, electric motor, 3 foot waves, loving every minute of it. The lakes a good size but not massive.

When in doubt just stay close to shore, if things get too ugly just beach it.
