Spent most of the day trying to catch the elusive Halibut after their last 2 salmon needed for their possession limit.

Some success with a 70 and a 27 lbers

Hey Tofino guy thanks for the reports. I've been reading reports from Ucluelet and seems like a really good run right now. Was thinking of heading out there this next week if I can find accomodations. How has Tofino's inside protected waters been. I'd like to go up there and try it out or do you think it would be similar to Ukee? How far do you have to go for the Halibut. I've never caught one and should really put in some time to get one already!

Thanks for any help!

You would be better off fishing Barkley Sound if you need to fish inside waters. A lot of our protected and surf line areas are under a fin fish closure that started Aug1st and run until Oct 31st to protect some Chinook runs.

Halibut can be caught quite close to shore but still in open waters.

Thanks for the heads, up I didn't even check the regs there yet. Guess that would have helped. Hopefully the wind lays down a bit like I see on the surf forecasts for wednesday and thursday and then get out on the banks for a bit!

Otherwise might be stuck inside if its blowing

I go offshore regardless of the wind, that's where the fish are

Yeah well I'm not going out there in 25+knott winds with the wife, a four year old and a 2 year old. I went out to south bank last time in the wind and they were all sick.

But looks like Wednesday and Thursday we might get some calm conditions!

It's been a terrible spring over here but we managed to get out in fairly sporty to put a nice Halibut in the boat yesterday.

It was nice to get a weather window....it's looking like some sunny days for the next while.

It's even nicer when the Salmon are close to shore

Nice calm day for bottom fishing.

Yes, the limits have been reduced for the south coast but still quite generous
