Default Moving to the East Coast

Its time for a new adventure. I've just accepted a job out on the Rock and will be moving the family out there shortly. This is our first long haul move so any advice from the pros would be appreciated. Its also our first time going to NFLD, so we're kinda jumping in head first.
Moving tips and tricks?
Moving companies to use or avoid?
Shipping a vehicle or two, whats the best ways?
Anyone want to buy a great 3 bedroom vacation home in the Alberta Rockies, close to some of the worlds best fly fishing, hunting and ATV trails? I've got my house up for grabs.

I've had a couple of bad moves.

It doesn't really matter what company you go with... they are all owned by the 3 or 4 larger companies.
They set up the little companies under different names... to get larger numbers of equally parced out government moves.

I would avoid Highland though... they self insure and that puts you in a bad position if they break or lose something.

Watch them pack EVERYTHING.
Document it.... box by box as it is loaded and put on the truck.
If they drop a box... document it.
Open the box and confirm what was damaged... on the spot.
Take pictures even.
Do not sign anything unless you can account for what is on the page and all of your stuff.
They will try to rush you at the other end but it is especially important there because once in awhile something will "fall off of the truck".

Thats how I lost a custom built fly rod...

Trust me... if some of your stuff is missing or broken at the other end... they'll pay you out about 30 cents on the pound... if at all.

Anything you really care about take with you.

Find out what they will not move right now and start selling it.
It is a long list.
If they are charging by the pound make sure the truck is full when it arrives or they'll top off after they load you and bill you for the weight of the fuel.

And finally... it is sometimes better to just rent a truck and move yourself... especially in summer.
It is peak moving time and they tend to hoire a lot of temps and get backlogged..
You and your stuff arrive together and you don't end up stuck in a hotel while they try to find your container.

Might as well move out East they seem to all have moved here the last couple years. You will have the place to yourself.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone moving TO Newfoundland. I know lots of people that moved FROM NFLD, or BACK to NFLD, but this is the first time I've heard of this. Cool.

I would go with "Pods" or a similar outfit. Pack it yourself and lock it, ship as required and unload yourself.

1) Find yourself a frozen cod and start kissing it for practice.

2) Remember the provincial flower lives in a swamp and eats bugs.

3) A broom with a shoe on the end is not a broom at all.

4) You will routinely be put down by Pamela Anderson.

5) Repeat after me "I's da by dat builds da boat"
