Default 2013 Moose - 33.5 - Bow Zone

This bull was taken at 5:30 pm with a 30 yard shot, double lunged with 100 grain - slick trick, MQ1 Mathews original, and ASAT camo. This will be tasty meat for the freezer this winter. A special thanks to my good friend Mike as he helped me get this bull out of the bush. Which I am very thankful for ,this Thanksgiving weekend!

Short Story:
I heard this bull with a cow but he wasn't coming to my calls. I intercepted with my best guess however both caught me in the open as they were cutting across a trail, the cow first and then the bull. I believe my ASAT really did pay off here because I had no arrow knocked. So, I quickly put my bow over my head, grunted like a bull plus rocking back and forth. The appearance would make anyone stare, especially a bull. He started to circle, & went behind some thick stuff and stood there. I kept grunting and then he started walking downwind. I really only had one lane open if he walked by, as the brush was crazy thick. The bull started walking in the direction of my lane so, I bent my fake antlers down, knocked an arrow & came back up at full draw. After a few tense moments, I made a big grunt that stopped him right in my lane...... 50 yards later, it was all over. Blood trail was huge and easy to follow.... then work argh!

Default Thank You to all respondants

I have so many photos of the blood trail and broken arrow but I didn't post them. The bull was always moving away from me because of a cow with him. I saw 3 cows and a calf so that bull was plenty busy. After the shot, and found the bull down, I went to my vehicle and another cow was across the road. It was an excting day even if I didn't shoot! The bull was a bonus......

Congrats! Thanks for the pic, cool story and a tip that I will probably try some day. I've heard of doing that or even holding a bow in front of your face to break up your outline, so now I at least know that it can work.

whatever works! Way to go.

Yup, the bull moose really get mezmorized by the bow looking like antlers and rocking back and forth....its a challenge tactic.

Glad it worked out for you.

..lol yup it works more than it doesnt during the rut...My white bow helps also...but I think the key is as you rock back and forth do it slow and bout a good foot each side....but be aware thats gets them riled up...check your six for a quick exit lol
