Default Fish Crackling Crystals

I bought these crackling crystals from CT the other day. They are little capsules that when come into contact with water emit a crackling sound that "mimics the sound of fish swimming", to attract other fish. The description is otherwise pretty vague...doesn't say what kind of fish it works best on, how long each capsule lasts, or anything. They were really cheap so I grabbed a pack.

My question is, has anyone used them? For what species? Optimal conditions? Tips? They seem like a gimmick to me, but I figured I could pay the $3.00 for 5 capsules...they might help me catch that big hog of my dreams.

I haven't opened them yet, but the pic on the package looks clear.

Hey, you guys laughed at my swirl & twirl method, but who continuously pulled out hogs?
