Trolling motor

Has anyone looked at the Bass Pro Prowler electric trolling motor? The price makes the motor very tempting. The 50# motor is only $169 and the reviews on the BP site seem to be good. Anyone have one of these? I'm looking to strap one of these to a 10' pontoon.

I bought a 30# one to strap on the back of my 8' pontoon boat i got for fathers day on the advice of my buddy--I am still waiting for the mount kit though, so I will update once I get everything together and get the boat out.

i have a prowler that i use for slow trolling on my aluminum it works great dont hesitate to buy one

I was going to use it for trolling and getting around on the lake with the small pontoon. I'm just a little paranoid getting the generic brand.

50 pounder will turn your pontoon into a rocket. I have a 40lb Minnkota on a 9ft, works really well and it works well on a 14ft aluminum V-hull, scoots right along.

I bought a 40 lb. minncota traxxis for my 9 ft pontoon boat, works great. One thing you also need to consider is battery consumption. Some of the new electric motors are really good at conserving battery power, other motors use the same power at full speed or low speed. The digitally controlled motors pulse electricity to the motor. I know the difference between these two types of power controls makes a huge difference with battery life. They say 5 times longer. Just something to consider.

I bought my 50# Prowler based on the price because I don't expect to use it much (my target fishing is rivers). Had it out on Sunday for the first time.

Costco deep cycle (new), 115AH battery, fully charged and at 13.39VDC. Mounted on a 12.5' Seamax inflatable, two men, lots of gear. Fish finder also hooked to the battery.

On the water at 10AM, ran pretty much steady to 5PM. Level 2 speed 60%, level 1 speed 35%, off 5% or less. Battery at 12.2VDC when back home.

Speeds on fresh battery: Level 1 = 2kph, 2 = 2.5kph, 3 = 3.3kph, 4 = 4.2, 5 = 5.2kph, should have brought the water skis (gps measured) Level 5 at end of day was 4.8kph. There was a bit of breeze during the day but light.

Very quiet running. Found the control head was a bit loose on the shaft and it needs to be fixed, otherwise, quite happy with it. Now we see how long it lasts.

My 9ft is rated for 450lbs, so, the battery weight wasn't a huge consideration.
I have a grp 27 180a/h deep cycle for the Minnkota, lasted me 4 days at Whitetail the last time I used it.Beats rowing across against the wind. Nice part of using it on a pontoon, is they don't need a lot of power to move them. For the 14ft V-hull I have a 220a/n grp 31. It lasts 5 days with the occasional usage it gets on that boat in a trip.
