As the seller you would have to pay 1.9 - 2.9% on the transaction.

I can, with 99% certainty tell you anybody trying to buy an item worth 35k with paypal is a scammer.

It will cost you over a grand in service charges to receive that money. So even if everything is on the up and up...you are charged 3% as the receiver of the money.

RUN AWAY from that deal, all the buyer has to do is call paypal before the money is in your account and say that they never received the item. Pay pal will give them the money back and you are out the item and money.

Paypal would be not be a good solution for that amount of money.

Email money transfer probably won't work since those typically top our around $3k per day I believe.

Best bet would be a wire for that amount. If they insist on a chq I'd speak with your bank before handing over the equipment. Even if a chq is deposited and the money shows in your account there is still a time frame where the bank can remove the funds if the chq was found to be fraudulent. I don't know the specifics but for $35k it's worth spending a bit of time looking into it.

In the end, wired is pretty much the safest bet I'd believe for that amount.

Nothing good will come of this, just sayin...............

only bad thing about a wire is you have to provide your banking information. Bank draft via courier, then you call that bank to confirm as their are fraudulent bank drafts out there. I take it his guy is not local.

Paypal protects the buyer so if the buyer wants to screw you over Paypal will have his best interests in mind and not yours.

For this kind of money the only method you should consider is a bank wire transfer it is secure and your interests are looked after.Cost is minimal and with no worries about somebody scamming you.

Exactly. Paypal would be okay for $35...not for $35 000.

When I bought my Harley I flew to Miami to inspect it and take care of the financials. And that was less then half of your amount. This has shady written all over it.

I sold a classic sports bike on ebay a few years ago right befoure I was takeing it to the airport to have it crated and shipped . I received a email that the payment was canceled buy the buyer ! I contacted ebay and paypal said there was nothing thay could do cause the credit card was canceled . If had waited another couple hours he would have had the bike and there would probably have been nothing I could have done !

All the buyer has to do is phone and made a fraudulent sale call or use a stolen card/account. Paypal will take the money from the seller.

Everyone is correct on not using PayPal, however there is nothing to be gained by calling the buyer out.

A scammer, if he is good, may make it his mission to make your life miserable by getting you some malware or a virus for Christmas . He no doubt already has some of your personal information.

OR he may not know how PayPal works. I had a guy interested in my travel trailer this spring. He suggested PayPal, I am thinking scammer, but remained polite. I told him to Google PayPal scams and call me if he was still interested. He turned out to be a legitimate buyer and did purchase my trailer.

Paypal doesn't charge seller any fee if transfer from buyer is in cash. I use Paypal for orders to US. Its a pain and I cannot transfer US funds into a US dollar bank account.

But a $35G item being purchased unseen is a warning. Don't.

If this person is local, join them to their financial institution to have a money transfer done, by the bank to your account. Confirm it with your financial institute, and your good to go. PayPal insures items, with certain exceptions, such as vehicles and items that needs to be registered. If your purchaser is out of province, and the item being sold is one that needs to be registered, you can always have them pay with certified check, but before you do that have someone put a lien on the equipment,so it can't be registered until lien is removed, This method won't stop your item from being thrown in a sea can and shipped overseas, in this case it's theft and your item if insured will be covered!!
