Bring Mike back as a goalie coach. How Schwartz has kept this job for 8-9 years is like a 7th wonder of the NHL.

So Vegas Knights play the Sharks and beat them 5-0. Vegas goalie faces 20 shots and has to make 2 or 3 key saves.
In the Oilers game, Skinner only faced 18 shots and lets in 3, there is the difference. First thing the Oilers need to do is to make a trade to get a # 1 goalie. Surely Ken Holland can do that. This will be the first big step to getting out of last place in the conference.

Quantity of shots does not always equal a win it's quality of shots, for instance on Thursday night the team my grandson plays on, the Timmins Rock in the NOJHL who are in first place in their division and were riding an 11 game point streak played French River who is in last place and had just 2 wins in 20 games, Timmins outshot them 60 - 26 and lost the game 2 - 1 Timmins also has the #1 power play in the league but went 0 / 8 on the power play that game

Other thing to consider, Vegas is 2nd in the league in Goals For while Edmonton is 29th. Conner and Leon have combined for one goal in their last 16 games, hard to put this all on the goalies.

They have to do something. Once you improve the goalie position the players out front will play differently and with more confidence. But yes they will have to make more than a few changes to make the team competitive. If they don’t there is a good possibility they finish out of the playoffs. After all that is why they pay Ken Holland the big bucks to be the GM.

If the Oilers had put 5 goals on the board like Vegas did, against a team playing historically bad defence, they would have won too.

Skinner had basically zero chance on any of the three that went in, and even if he stops one of them, it's still a tie game.

Their defence and goaltending is terrible at times, but Trochu is right, they're not going to win many games scoring 2 goals and less and night.

Paying a steep price for a goaltender might cover up a few flaws, but it isn't going solve the problem. It might make it worse.

I don't have the answers. I'm still kind of in awe at how bad the season has started. Everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong. They really aren't a lottery pick team, I can't explain it. The hockey Gords are angry...

Well glad to see them get the win tonight, hopefully they can use this and a steeping stone and take the good points from the game. The limited the Cracken to what 1 odd man rush and 2 good slot chances. This is probably the biggest win for the game. It’s like Woodcroft said, when a goalie makes a mistake everyone sees it, but it’s been our defensive play that has been killing us right from Mcd- all the way back to skinner. We can get a goalie but it’s not going to stop the bleeding just slow it. We have been out shooting teams 2-1 or more for the last 6 games.Lots of posts and blocked or deflected shots. When we do the little things right is when things start to bounce for us instead of against us things are going to turn around fast. One shift, one period, one game at a time. Let’s go OIL!!!

Hope the oilers pick him up. He’d be a big asset to the oilers.

I’d of liked to see Holland and Schwartz be the ones down the road.
Someone is going to be lucky and get jay.
79-41-11 with the oil.

Schwartz needs to go. We haven’t had decent goalie coaching the entire time he’s had that roll. Yes the D sucks. But how many times have the goalies let first shots in. Or just didn’t seem prepared. Smith never listened to Schwartz. Did his own thing. He should be the next goalie coach.

Well firing Wheatcroft and Manson especially after a bounce back win makes no sense. And replacing them with two inexperienced coaches. However if you are going to hit the panic button would have preferred Gerard Gallant as the replacement to rattle some cages in the dressing room.

Oilers coaching job is the best and worst job in the league.
Best cause you got #1, and #2 in the league. How much fun would that be? And worst cause if you don’t t win now, you’ll be combining canola with the Sutter boys

Kris Knoblauch is from my hometown in Saskatchewan. Small town guy hailing from a town of only 300 people. He is about 4 years older than I am. He has had some success if you look into his coaching career. Couple junior championships under his belt. I know the NHL is a different scenario but give him a chance. I’m looking forward to it gonna be kind of cool seeing him behind the bench of my favorite hockey team.

Sure I get give him a chance, but maybe it’s not the coach that has lost the room maybe it’s the GM that’s lost his management team. I don’t think switching coaches is going to solve our attention to details. I liked Woodcroft, but too many players are playing for the name on the back not the crest on the front. Should have moved Cecci instead of Barrie, nothing for Yamamoto or Kostin, gonna have bigger cap hit on Brown asap. Cambell never found his grove if he ever will. Dustin must have some real good blackmail info on Katez or something casue he’s still around.
I really think we were going to see a different team skate after the win last night. You can tell the little things are starting to click. Even in the last couple of games. You’re not always going to get the win. Right thing, right way at the right time. One of those out of sync and the puck goes the opposite direction.

If he isn’t the catalyst for all this why are they blatantly hiring folks that have been connected to him in the past? Quite the dynamic and optics.

Wonder if Gretz gave Coffey any coaching tips? LMAO

This team could be its own realty show now…

Just checked the news banner and was very surprised to see they fired Woodcroft. Wow, bad start ya but they have been very good with him at the helm since he came on board. I wonder if it was Jackson or Holland who decided this as I think the boys in the locker room really liked Woody and Manson. Crazy to be getting new coaching staff again.

And I agree, how does Swartz get to keep his job year after year.

Knobloch and Coffey now......Tbd.
