What is your opinion on this motor? I am looking at my options for a new one for spring. They are lighter and have fewer parts. I find it hard to believe that a 2 stroke motor can run cleaner than a 4 stroke but they claim they can. Maybe I 'm just used to the old ones with the trail of smoke behind the boat.

Well all I have to say on thse engines is,,, they don't make em any better..

I have 3 seasons on my 175 E-TEC now and it has been nothing but great.. And if any of you pay attention I get quite a few hrs a year on an engine. These motors are very enquie in many ways and are years ahead of the competition. If this engine of mine continues to give me the service it has the last 3 season's I expect to never own anything but and E-Tec again.

Go for it. We replaced our NOISY Merc Pro Max 150 with a 175 Etec. Ever carry on a conversation at 65 miles an hour without yelling ? Great fuel economy too.

I have had a 50hp E-TEC since spring 2005. Have hour meter in boat
since new. Have 137hrs on motor now. It has been problem free, it
is very quiet running. Trolling or wide open. Runs really clean and always
starts instantly with first turn of key. Fuel consumption is excellent.
I am very satisfied with my E-TEC.
