Default A reunion of beauties, 23 years in the making

Back in 1991 several great things took place. I got married, we had our first child (a son), and I took my new bride hunting. She was fortunate enough to get a moose that fall. The rifle was a HVA Carl Gustav Grade III in 270. I had to sell the gun later that year to pay for all the things a new family needs but can't afford (diapers, food, water connection to our home). I was cruising through some old pictures a few weeks back and came across this...

I decided to try and find the rifle and see if I could get it back for my Mrs. I got a hold of the buddy I sold it to and lo and behold, he still had it, he wasn't interested in parting with it either, but when I sent him the picture of my wife with the rifle and her first big game animal, he agreed to let me have the rifle. It was in the condition you would expect from a well used 40 year old rifle, so I stripped the bluing from the barrel, sanded and buffed the small areas of surface pitting out and re blued it with cold blue. Stripped the stock and completely refinished the entire rifle in satin oil down to 2000 grit. My wife was just as happy as a mother welcoming a long lost child home. I'll be putting up pics if she gets a moose this fall with it.

And I've been told! It's not for sale!

Thumbs up

Congrats on getting the two beauties back together. Good on you to follow up and put the time and effort in to make it happen. As the proud owner of a Carl Gustav myself (my first big game rifle) I know how special they are.

I'm pretty darn lucky too, When your wife gets excited about a gun, you just know you married the right woman.

I age like fine wine! Wine that's been stored standing up with the cork dried out.

I love the stories that firearms have. Very cool. Thank you for sharing...

Awesome thread! Thanks for sharing.

My story is a bit different... Let's just say that I still have the rifle that sparked our first, uh, marital disagreement...

Default restored gem

I also love the older rifles and their storeys that accompany them. I cold blued a few myself only to curse the fine surface rust that would appear from time to time. SkyTopBrewster did a Hot Blu for me on 4 for me now and I could not be happier. Deep dark Blu/Black. they look like brand new.
