Default mossberg 500 firing pin

I have an old and a new mossberg 500. The new is flawless and I havent shot the old yet but while cleaning it I noticed there's no spring on the firing pin. Is that a normal thing... I believe it is but is there safety issues like fire on pump or something like that. Can a spring be added?

It might be an older "rocker" type firing pin and not intended to have a spring.

I believe there were a few safety issues with those (slam fire is not specifically mentioned) which is why they are no longer made that way. I'd recommend digging up some more data on the specific model you have.
