Default Gun Refurbishing - Pic Heavy

Interested in seeing and hearing about others refurbs and the processes. I have several completed and several more in line. Post what you got with some details. Here is what I have thus far. Be sure to post the "before shot" along with the finished product.

This was my first refurb, 1953 Winchester Model 50 auto loader, was given to me by an in-law, action seized solid. Apparently a gunsmith claimed he could not get it apart..........took awhile, but works like new.

Sure looks a lot better than it did!!
50's are pretty cool guns, fairly easy to work on IIRC....

You sure did a nice job on the wood! I've got two stocks that I'm working on right now, did the bedding, now I'm refinishing them.

Here's a Cooey Model 64 .22 auto LR Wife's grandfather had it kicking around and asked me to clean it, but couldn't bare to stare at the scars. It's probably going to go to my step son and I have another left from my grandfather that I will be refinishing for my son.

Default '43 Enfield Longbranch - Before

Here's the last one I completed about a week ago. Enfield Longbranch.....was all there and had a garage built scope mount that was fashioned in a similar manner as the aftermarket one I was able to source through Addley Precision. The .303 Longbranch worked but had modifications that dated back from manufacture date right up until about 15 years ago when my grandfather passed. I can't tell what was rednecktified by my grandfather or by the previous owner...which I believe was his brother who served in WWII..........Regardless I scraped away dirt, deer hair, rust and a thick layer of varnish which was everywhere from the barrel to the action. I did't stick with the original stain but why bother when there are already so many modifications, including the sporter butt stock and the shaved low profile action which removed the mounting position for the rear folding sight.

One thing I'm really not sure about with this gun is if the barrel had an addition, there is a grove all the way around...

Oh and the best part I found was how the barrel was shimmed with 5 layers of masking tape to center the barrel in the fore grip.......the barrel is completely free floating now.

Those are works of art. Thanks for sharing!

I have a wood stock on my dad's 30-06 that has a deep crack in it. I'm not sure how best to go about repairing it. These gave me some ideas.

Thx

Yes, we loaded rounds with black powder- by year of production its hard to say if this barrel was designed for smokeless powder or not. Cat, if you read this maybe you could shed some light? We harvested a Black bear last year with it at 45ish yards. It makes a good thud and lots of smoke. Pretty cool to shoot a piece of history.

From what I could find, if the manufacture date is pre 1903 it requires a nickel steel barrel for smokeless which some folks had done....if the manufacture date is post 1903 smokeless is good to go. Could be wrong.

I have a Savage/Springfield 67 12guage that I've been redoing but nothing as nice as what has been posted. Just need to find the time to get the stock finished. I have an old thread somewhere on the start of it.
