Default Ruger 10/22 Takedown - Got Problems

Wondered if anybody out there has a Ruger 10/22 takedown and had issues with miss-fires (Deadmans Click!)

Bought mine in December and have had nothing but problems with it, first of all it wouldn't eject the spent casing fully and jammed up, I then reset the barrel connection having already followed the instructions in the book on setting it up.
Now it misfires consistently every 3rd or 4th round, very annoying.

I took it back to wholesale sports who have sent it back to Ruger, so fingers crossed, but not holding my breath.

Did you try different brands of ammo? My 10/22 sometimes doesn't like certain loads and does some of the similar issues you stated.

Personally, both my 10/22's will fire any shell you can fit in it. I run into some issues feeding, but that is a mag issue.

I know several people who have recently bought 10/22's and they are all having issues that you describe. Maybe its a QC issue?

10/22's need break in bad. Get a brick of Stingers and put them through the gun (as long as its not a target model) all 500. Make sure the paint inside of the receiver is not peeling and restricting the bolt movement. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. 10/22's are known to be the "never say never" of autoloading .22's. Make sure you only judge the gun performance with clean factory 10 round mags not extended ones, even Ruger 25's.

My 10/22 (not a takedown) took a bit of time to break in.

While that was happening she was a bit ammo fussy and preferred the higher velocity stuff.
Once she had about a brick through her and with the addition of a buffer bumper... its smooth as silk and no issues that I can blame of the rifle unless I have not cleaned it for a few thousand rounds... which is still not the guns fault really.

Oh...and I use higher temp lubes on that action to.... might only be a 22 but 30 rounds rapid fire x a few mags out there killing grass rats can heat em up and break down oil pretty fast.

Thanks for the replies.
I bought a couple of boxes of Winchesters with the gun, didn't like these, then bought a couple of different types of federals, seemed better but still misfired, haven't tried CCI's yet, but will give them a blast when the gun is returned.
Will perceiver for a while and see how she fires.

I have a volquartsen 10/22. It is very accurate with CCI velocitors or lapua match.

Shoot them dry with no lube. .22 ammo is dirty and gets worse with lube.

Shoot Blasers(made by cci) and Federal brands. ie American Eagle(made by Federal). you will get problems from remington ammo and some of the winchester brands(loads). i just completed a test with my 10/22. 7 different ammo manufactures. Blaser are solids and shoot awsome, sam ewith American Eagle very little p.o.i difference.

Try shooting remingtons through it without safety glasses.

Mine has shot remington bulk from the start with no problems. Still a young gun, though.

If it's not extracting well, definitely consider a kidd or VQ extractor.

There is quite a few video on you tube with easy fix a guy can try, shouldn't have to mess with a brand new gun but it happen. Mine took 1 hour of light polish on the bolt and receiver and it now fire anything without an issue, or you can fire countless round like it was suggested. Less frustating with 800 grit sandpaper and polishing compoud than shooting 500 rounds with a gun that jam up. Also much faster than a trip to Ruger.

Best of luck to you, hopefully your 1022 return soon, gophers are out!!!

Hey All
Received my .22 back from Ruger. They replaced the bolt assembly and sent it back. Went out at the weekend and shot a hundred rounds or so through it. All is good, think I had 1 or 2 misfires, but I put this down to cheap Winchester ammo. Otherwise it shot great.
The bolt assembley certainly does look different, but can't really tell how different it is from the original.

Cheers
