Heading out one last time this weekend and then put the ice gear away and start dreaming of the opener. My son and I are doing a little competition this year but he doesn’t stand a chance, I will have my lucky charm with me, my Grandson. He can out fish is all at 10 years old and knows my boat and all the electronics as well as I do.

Was really hoping to get in one last trip to the southern reservoir before the closure on Wednesday but work is gonna **** that up as usual. Might try to sneak out to a trout late out west or one of the central AB lakes to see if we can find any of the mini walleye that are left in 'em, but we're just about done for this season, I reckon. The time between ice closure and open water is a depressing couple of months....

We might be ice fishing on May 8th here in the south. Ice is 30+ now on some lakes!

Was shocked to see some of the ice melting out where the river dumps in while out snowmobiling today. We probably have 4.5’ of snow on the flat so I expect it will be a while before the ice and snow melts enough to launch a boat!

Put most of our gear away for the season on this last round before work. Headed to northern Ontario for a week of ice fishing and wolf hunting on next set of days off starting March 19. By the time we get back and finish another two week work rotation it will be time to get after the snow geese. Really looking forward to our Ontario trip, our friends there are hammering the walleye big time! Will be my first time back there since leaving there in 2012. I do miss the fishing there but nothing else, lol.

Unfortunately, the shores will melt away pretty quick as usual and ice will still be at least 20' thick..LOL. I watched people use a small inflatable awhile back to get across the rocks at Mcgregor to reach the ice. Real troopers.

I wanted my garage space back so everything went back to the rafters this past weekend. Hopefully the Flames make the playoffs so I don't get bored.

In the south, The lakes that typically open up early are starting to open, Stafford and Yellow lake. The larger deeper lakes are starting show some signs of decaying, but fairly solid still, the rivers have tended to be frozen over longer than normal as well

I dunno about you, but I love late ice. The later that ice comes off, the more weeks of post spawn fishing I get. Can be a real bugger when I'm itching to wet a line and theres still ice clogging my favorite spots, but when I've still got good numbers of big predators concentrated shallow in late June... I'll take it

The Oldman is open by Taber. If we get the high temps and a fast run off, there might be some ice jams rolling down the river.

Booked a campsite at Newell for the weekend following opening day. First time I've headed South with the boat, doing it purely so I can get fishing a week earlier.

So hoping the ice is gone by then, would assume it would be, it can hold on until the day before I arrive though

Not even... When theres late ice, that glass is full right to the top IMO. I drive by LSL pretty much every day, anxiously watching and hoping it will hang in there, at least untill the second week of May. Seasons where the big lake is still iced in for opening day I almost always rack up greater numbers of trophy pike.

Ice looks pretty good right now but I think I'll be lucky if its still there for the second week of May.

I'm ready also. Eagle Lake had about 1/3 ice Tuesday night when I detoured by there, we've had some wind I'll bet it's totally clear!! Almost time!
