Default Hunting rifle suggestions

Im looking to buy a new rifle and scope. I want to be able to hit deer at a long ways away. I also do hunt elk and moose so that is also a factor. Any suggestions? Thanks

If its not a Weatherby then your wasting your money. Yes the 7mm would be perfect or if you dont mind recoil(if your not built like a 10 year old girl) a 300 win mag would be a great choice.

Just go all the way to 378Wby. With the 260 AB's that will reach out for deer and moose, elk.
Really though anything from 7mm up will shoot plenty flat and do what you want. Its hard to beat an all rounder like the 300Wby. A 338-378 would be sweet. I just got one but it is getting sent away to be something else.

hunting's over-rated, just lob lead, take out your heat seeking bino's and hope you can get there before it's cold!!
firestorm on, lee.

No they don't, they're a bunch of chest thumping, 4x4 'ng, GPS or lost, TSX shooting, cell phone lonely new kids on the block.

I agree, Try calling a Bull or Buck into 10yards, Now that's a rush!
long range is overrated,
100yards can be a long way under field conditions, snap shooting at the above bull that you just spooked.

thats' s funny,,,had a young lad delivering me a pump to the rig...saw him drive by twice, furthest at about a 100 yards, kept going, I finally went out and flagged him down...he was mad at me because "according to his GPS, I was supposed to be over there!!!!"...explained to him about surface locations and bottom hole locations....and maybe follow directions!!!!!

Excuse me....I think we are on track.....was it being said here that the guys who want to buy a gun like they see in their videos, to kill anything at any range....are not living in the real world.....go "hunting" and make a clean and humane kill...and don't start with the nonsense..I shot a deer at 600 yards....NOBODY can kill an animal consisently at over 400 yards under hunting conditions...anyone that says they can, fails to mention the others that he has hit with a non-killing shot or a cow or calf in the "general vicinity".....bench rest and hunting are 2 very different things!!

I happen to love the .30-06 class of cartridge.

Something like a .30-06 be it a .280 or .270 or .30-06.

The browning xbolts are looking great in .280 imo, just waiting for a LH one!

nothing wrong with shooting 400 - 1000yards... at the range but shooting "AT" game at these larger distances are for the guys that are incapable of actually hunting an animal on its terms and getting into closer distances.
Go ahead bash what im saying but if you cant get 400 or less your "NOT" a hunter!!!!!!!

Excuse me .... you talking about a kid with a GPS has absolutely,, I mean absolutely nothing with the question asked, half the time no one gets an answer because they are to intimidated to ask,, or the peanut gallery chimes in with young hunter cracks. If he wants a long range rifle and wants to practice, get a range finder, etc, he will find out when he goes hunting it's way easier to hit animals that are closer than farther,, but what he wants to do he will do buy being negative no one wins.

No bashing from me sheep, I agree 100%. But if you ever wonder why these threads ever go so off track as someone else suggested, let's analyze the question:

Quote:

Buddy wants to buy a new rifle and scope. He wants to "hit" deer a long ways away. No mention of a clean ethical clean, just a "hit". Then he goes on to mention that he also hunts elk and moose.

In "my" way of thinking, if you already hunt elk and moose, then why should it be necessary to *****y (sorry 'bout the spelling, but ***** came to mind) the membership as to the right choice of rifle and scope seems somewhat irrelevant. Don't know for sure, maybe I'm in left field, but I'm thinking this is knida an idiotic question followed by a bunch or moronic answers. Oh, I used a bad word.

Edit: dang it anyways, I don't remember using a bunch of ****** words, but is bullpoopoo Ok? what about poo? or ..........moron? Rob said moron, so can I

Once again.. u have missed the point, as you are prone to do....I was just saying...that "some people" come on here and are looking for a gun that can shoot and kill at ridiculous ranges...then the heroes jump on , with their favorite caliber, with nothing to back them up or their story and tell everyone there gun can shoot 1000Yds. plus give me a break!!!...so the guy thinks ...SHEESH this is awesome!!!....I can kill stuff with my "Super Magnum" farther than I can see it...good advice
