Thinking of taking the kids out there next weekend.
I haven’t been there in 10 years, not since they started stocking it with trout.
What’s the fishing like there now?
Would it be a good place to take kids?

The trout stocking has made the walleye / pike fishing excellent

I think kids would have a good time - if you are boating the lake is generally calm due to its N/S aspect, you can troll, cast, or jig successfully, and the launch is great.

I'm not sure what the water level is like but Southern Alberta has had good rain and runoff conditions recently - each bode well here. I've found the launch to be straightforward even late last year when the water level was VERY low.

Fished it a few times last year, pretty steady bite on smallish walleyes. Should be enough action for the kids & Dad to have fun!

Thanks very much for the info gents. Like I said it’s been many years since I’ve been there.
Kids get bored so easy that I think as long as they catch a few fish it will be a positive experience. One of the kids I found out to my shock has never been fishing.
I hope to make it a pleasant experience for him.
We’ll just be fishing from the shore, Probably North side of the bridge.

I always bring first timer to North end of Chain lake, IMO catch rate is a lot higher over there compared to PCR for newbies, you have a big stretch of area to fish off shore or by the rocks. A smaller spinner on light lines OR float jig with Berkley Gulp Dough on a small single or treble hook seems to work well, but mostly trout there in case you didn't know, goodluck!

there's a small dirt path that leads to a small parking area just beside the bridge on highway22.
