couple things people are going to want to know. have you taken firearms training and hunters training? have you hunted before? what do you want to hunt? where do you live?

Hi Boony and welcome to the forum! Here is a link to the 'Hunting Partner' thread, if you post where you're located and what you're looking for there you can probably find somebody close by who would be happy to show you the ropes:

Thumbs up

Welcome aboard, good luck.
Tuff place here sometimes, kinda like hunting, not everyday is going to be a stroll in the woods without a slip or two.
Weed through the interest to your quest, hunt with like minded people, hunt legal and hunt safe!

I would have thought that they would have made you aware of this when you took your hunter safety course.

Default help with new hunter

hello and good evening

So your new to hunting ? thats great to hear and welcome to the club. first things you may want to do would be find some one who has been hunting for some time. Also think about what you would like hunt birds, deer, bears, elk and so on then put your time and money into that.As for a place to hunt they are hard to come by as no real long time hunter is quick to give up any of their spots to some one who isnt and friend or family. How to work around that would be to find crown land around your area remember youll never catch anything unless you spend the time in the bush.

good luck out there and happy hunting

Its always good to know the regulations and where to find them, but his question didnt ask for this? They most likely did inform him of this during the course if he has taken it. I am sure he knows he can hunt in Alberta.

Finding a place to hunt requires much time looking at maps, asking for permission and bootwork! Hopefully you find someone who can get you out.

Actually the regulations tell you where the open seasons are for each species, whether it is a general season or a draw, and it gives the dates of each season. Knowing where the open seasons are for a given species, is necessary in order to choose a place to hunt legally.

I am well aware of how the regulations work. When most people ask where to hunt they would like specific areas. Regulations are big broad zones not nice parcels of land to hunt like most people tend to ask for.

So given that he provided no information on what he wants to hunt or when he wants to hunt, or where he lives, how about recommending a specific area for him to hunt?

Since others have already mentioned we require that information, ill wait. Just simply saying the way you stated your response inferring his course provider never told him of the regulations came across as ignorant. But anyways its always good to know the regulations on the specific area you intend to hunt.

Did I really infer that the course provider did not make him aware of the regulations, or could my statement be taken another way?
