Ritchie brothers
Anybody make it down to the sale this week? If so what did you buy and what you think of the prices?

You can view the auction online as a guest and also see what everything sold for.

I stopped going there when they brought in the buyers premium. The seller is already paying a commission for them to sell, buyers premium is just grabbing for more

It’s an absolute license to print money.
Sell other people’s stuff, have nothing invested in inventory and get paid no matter what it brings, collect cash from the buyer and the seller.
Those guys are great businessman. Built an empire.

funny story- when I got the gold cart home the batteries were completely flat, would not take a charge. Ritchie Bros said because it was listed as working they would refund the money totally, or pay for 1/2 new set of batteries.
What an amazing company!!

Not only that, it’s recession proof. Hell, they make bank in recessions. How much did they profit from oil crashing in 2014 here in Alberta? From 2015-present it has been one massive multi-day firesale of oilfield iron after another.

I was at the sale on Monday and Tuesday and thought the prices were quite high.
Skid steers and track loaders were going very high. I did buy a couple items that i
did not want to miss out on though.
My purchases were made on line Thursday and Friday when i returned home.

If you are big enough, and have enough pieces in a sale, you COULD TALK TO THEM about reducing the fee that they charge you on a sale.
Who knows, they may even back stop a set price on a piece of iron???

We sold a bunch of gear at the sale, usually sell a bunch a couple times a year. Also buy a bunch, we got a good value at this sale, and did not have to deal with a pile of people wanting to haggle, and no shows, truing to sell privately.
Works great for our business.
All though, we had someone remove the main fuses from 5 our big air compressors, before the sale(maybe in hopes they could buy them cheep, because when others looked at them they would not start)
Managed to have a guy there last week, and checked out all our gear, got one of RB guys to give him and hand, and they figured it out and got them all running before the end of the sale. I was ****ed off about that.
Yes they make money hand over fist, 10% buyers fee, 10% sellers fee.
But they market the gear globally. so there is that.

I’ve been to a few of their farm and yard sales looking to buy equipment and the one thing that bothers me is how often stuff is misrepresented. Incorrect hours and advertising options that machine does not have. I don’t trust them enough to buy big ticket items without personally seeing it. Been surprised more than once and if you ask them about it they just say too bad. They have built quite an empire tho and if you need to liquidate equipment they are a very good option due to their global reach.
