From 1st hand experience 2-pc is a mistake for large pike/musky. I much prefer a 1 piece glass 7foot M-MH baitcast rod with cork grip and extended grip.

1-pc because 2-pc automatically introduces a weak pot/stiff spot that has often broken or slipped apart on me.

glass because graphite cannot take the long-term abuse, and weaknesses are not obvious until the rod splinters

7 foot because that is the longest I can easily handle casting

baitcast because I have not found a spinning reel that is easier to use with heavier line (I use spiderwire stealth in 20 lb test)

cork grip because the foam grip does not stand up, and if you are lucky enough to get into a mess of large pike (as we did a few years ago - 20-75-110 cm northerns over 2 hours), your hand will not feel like mush trying to keep the rod steady.

extended grip because I like to put it on my belt for large fish,

just my 2 bits.

Vic

1) what size lure you want to cast? oz. rating is important.

2) casting or spinning?

3) primary application - trolling, casting, bucktail - or combo?

4) what action are you looking for (moderate, parabolic, fast ......)?

5) what price range?

let's start there .............. then I can probably make a few suggestions and narrow the 1500 options down to about a handful of good options for you.

I am happy to help - just give me a little more info please.

PS - I agree a 2 piece is not ideal for a muskie rod that's why 95% of them are 1 piece and 7ft or shorter.

Ok, well I can't have a 1 piece since my dad drives a car and not a truck, casting of course, mostly for casting 1-3 oz. lures, fast action and under $120.

Here it is ............

http://www.cabelas.ca/product/36857/...e-casting-rods

$119 but you may have to order one in ........ they are hard to find

In a two piece - on that budget you have very very few options but this is a good one. I have this rod as my back up in a one piece and it's pretty good.

You might also look at a Cabelas brand rod - they offer M/H power in a fast action casting rod capable of chucking 3 oz weights.

The graphite is high modulus and guides and seats are fuji (of high quality).

The handle is long but not split grip but a perfect length.

They are about $100 and are on the shelf ready to go. They come in one and two piece models.

This is my primary rod for pike right now. 7ft heavy, fast action one piece.
