Default Will mounts and antler fade in house

We recently moved into a new home and about the only place for 2 deer mounts is near a big window that faces west and gets lots of sunlight. Will mounts fade if too exposed? One mount will be about 3feet from window.

I know hardwood floors that are in direct sunlight will fade over time so I would suppose that taxidermy might also.

over time yes the mounts and the antlers will fade. If they are in direct sunlight they will fade a bit faster. Its something that takes quite a few years to occur but in ten years when you put a brand new mount beside it you will be able to tell the difference for sure. The antlers should only fade if they are in direct sunlight from my experience. Bright rooms won't fade them unless the sun is directly on them. I have antlers from years ago that haven't faded at all.The cape will fade over time but keeping a well groomed and cleaned mount will preserve it even longer from my experience.

Yes, UV rays will damage the mounts. Use sunscreen.

So a good SPF 50 lathered on the cape should do?

Or just a spray tan if you want to save time.

Your deer heads really aren't big enough to hang in your house , they should be in mine ..

Default Mounts

Worst things for mounts are, direct sunlight ,fire places or cigarette smoke.i have some mounts oldest is an antelope from 1990,looks like it was done last week.all totaled are ten and all were done by gordon roscoe at northwest taxidermy, couldn't be happier.

Sunlight is hard on everything they sell uv window tint.
I put it on all my west facing windows to help the AC out and reduce heat but it also helps with uv.
I would suggest using something like this and keeping the blinds closed so direct light doesn't get on your mounts!

Sunlight will not just bleach the color, it will decompose proteins in the hair, making it brittle.

Maybe call the Hawaiian Tropic girls for advice?

Don't take my advice on this maybe double check with a taxidermist but I was once told by an old taxidermist that he will spray pledge on a cloth and wipe the dust off his mounts. Not a ton of it but a little. He said it really rejuvenated older dusty mounts.

I would be worried about the alcohol in windex drying out the fur too much.
