Default trolling crank baits

When you guys troll cranks for walleye do you use steel leaders? If so do you attach line to the swivel or just to steel loop. There are lots of pike in these southern lakes and I hate to see a $8 hook swim away in some pikes mouth.

For me Directly to the line, or a small snap (no swivel) depending on the brand of crank.

I use steel leaders with a built-in snap/swivel.

I tie directly with a braided leader. 15-20 lbs test.

I still loose the odd one to Pike.

When you say with braided leader do you mean a power pro type line?

Yea like power pro line.

The line I use is made from spectra or micro-dyneema usually I use Rapala Titanium or Spiderwire Stealth.

i use 12-18" of 44Lb rio fluorflex; swivel between the flouro and the power pro, and a snap between the flouro and the lure.
stuff's nearly invisible and can stand up to some pike teeth.

i also use the same stuff (except in 6lb and double the length) for trout; stuff is awesome
cheers
