Thanks for posting and what a surprise

Just like the UK pretty much banning firearms and now London having more murders - with knives - than New York city has in total.

Liberals and socialists are mentally defective, but good news for all you progressives, you can always gather your friends and find a close convenient cliff to run off of, do it for the environment

I do not disagree with the premise but this article seems premature.

The NZ laws were brought in in April 2019 and presumably they are looking at the data from 2019 only?

Also missing is what type of firearms were used. ie did gun crimes in NZ continue to be existing and newly prohib weapons or non-prohib.

I think they will need to get 2020 under the belt before the data becomes truly useful.

A bit more details here:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/...ls-in-a-decade

The figures, obtained from police under the Official Information Act, show the rates of gun crime went up in both 2018 and 2019.

Last year, there were 3540 occasions where an offender was found with a gun.

And in both of the last two years, the rate of deadly incidents involving a firearm was the highest it had been since 2009. How bad was it in 2009? 2008?

The number of guns seized by police is also on the rise, up almost 50 percent on five years earlier at 1263 last year. Is this a result of increased number of newly prohib firearms? Domestic responses where newly prohibs were in the home etc.

An officer was attacked by someone wielding a gun 13 times in 2019, up two on 2018 but remaining steady over the past five years.

Re London vs NYC murders (NB: NYC is roughly twice the population of London):

London 2019 seems to be 149
NYC 2019 seems to be 311
