People say this every year but just about every year they are fishing by May long or the week after.

If we look at 2 years ago when we had a somewhat of a similar winter the ice disappeared like it usually does in just a couple of days.

eg. http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showt...ight=Cold+Lake

If you look at the table all the way back to 1960 you don’t see even one June breakup. so I'm still holding out hope that we will be on the water in the next bit. Fingers crossed that is.

Gives us all hope, if a lake can go from 25 inches of solid quadible ice to jet skiable in a week. Don’t lose the faith boys.

I'm back from the shore and pretty confident that rotten ice will be gone by Wednesday!

Looks to be about a week or so of ice left. Weather forecast looks pretty good! Long bay has opened up.

The ice never leaves it just sinks a bit thus giving your depth finder erratic readings as it bounces off the bottom for a few months than pops up to the surface...kinda like ice in your favorite beverage

I'm glad someone's smart enough to debunk the myth. If ice sinks in the summer, why does it "float" to the surface in the winter? Water has the same density all year long.

Ice doesn't float in the winter , its held up by the shoreline ! Along the river , its not even melting that fast sitting on the bank. Heat and wind today should beat the lakes up.

No you are right ice do not just float in the winter it is floating all the time even in spring time Ice is the solid state of water. Density plays a vital role in ice floating on water. Density is the qualitative property of any material and is calculated as mass per unit volume. Ice is denser than water and hence it always floats. Ice does not follow the basic rules of thermodynamics. According to this theory, a solid mass is heavier than water and will sink, but ice instead of sinking, floats on water. till it melt!! and you have the impression of see it sink
why would iceberg moved if they where not floating???

While we agree that ice doesn't just sink in the summer, you are wrong on the reason ice "float". Ice is approximately 9% less dense than water, therefore why ice is on top of water. Water is mot dense at 4 degrees Celsius and actually gets less dense as it cools and forms ice.

I just have to say "Your statement is confusing thermodynamically speaking"

Sorry but I have to call you out and also say "You have no idea what you are talking too"

Lolll the only thing I try to say and yes I copy and paste because I am french and thought It will make more sense but as simple at it is Ice do float and never sink and when the ice is melt no it is not at the bottom of the lake and it is for sure do not interfere with you fish finder the rest I do not care I just want to go fish on Wednesday that is it but even though you think my theory is wrong the fact is that ice do not sink.

Open water for a good 500 yards out from the marina as of 5 mins ago. What's left looks pretty black. Should be clear in the next couple days I would think!
