I'm back! Finished Battle School!!!
Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know I'm back on the Interweb after completing basic training, and Infantry DP1 in Meaford Ontario. Just got to my first official posting at 2RCR in Gagetown NB. ya I'm not in 'Berta anymore . But I'm looking forward to the hunting opportunities out here if I can get time. The country is beautiful out here.
Just have to get my car, rifles, and my stuff from home shipped here and look for a beater hunting wagon..

Congratulations ! I grew up in the Owen Sound area and the only military thing we ever heard about was what we called "the tank range " in the woodford area . Did you have anything to do with that area ?

Hats off to you and salutations. Thank you for being on guard for all of us.
When you can't go hunting don't forget the fishing. There might be some great fishing for brookies and river run atlantic salmon really close to Gagetown. Maybe even some big sturgeon. St. John river is within 15 minutes of the base.

Salmon fishing has been closed on the St.John river for years. Above Mactaquac dam there is good smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and the odd musky. Brook trout fishing and deer hunting is but a remnant of what it used to be. Lots of moose but tough odds to get drawn. Usually decent grouse hunting. There is sturgeon fishing and striped bass fishing in the lower St. John. If you like yellow perch the daily bag limit is 100(0ne hundred) a day. I prefer white perch, same body shape as yellow perch but pure silver with no markings except a dark stripe along the lateral line, they average a little bigger than yellow perch and I think they taste even better but your only allowed 25 a day Few locals eat perch that's why there are so many, when they do catch them many people throw them in the bush thinking they are trash fish.

Yes the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre used to be called the tank range. Now it serves as Infantry training for reg force as well as reserve trades. As well as PLQ courses. Only thing left is the knarly tank ruts every 3 ft to roll your ankles in while humping a 90+ pound ruck. I was fortunate enough to have been gifted a c9 for course! /s
Thank you guys for the kind words! It was one wild adventure that's Forsure! I've never been challenged so hard in my life as well as being the most rewarding!

Enjoyed my time at Meaford. Heard it had been built up, but haven't been there since 1989. It was a reserve base mostly at that time. I'm assuming you spent a bit of time at Wasaga?
Loved NB, but didn't really have time to hunt or fish. I regret now that I didn't fish a lot more.
Spend some time at the Lunar Rogue in Fredericton. I hear it is still a great place, but haven't visited since the mid 90's.
