Amazing Wind Powered Sculptures.
Anthony Howe makes the coolest "whirlgig" sculptures powered by wind. This is the kind of artworks our cities need to be supporting rather than some of the artwork installations they have. If I still had a yard I would want one.

I like the first one best. Now that would be something for the city of Edmonton to put up rather than the stupid baseball bat or the silver balls that do nothing.

Public funding of art is wrong.
It keeps mediocre artists from starving, and that generally makes for worse art all around.

I am still proud of Calgary's Big Blue Ring. It is an inspiring work of art.

My buddy from out of town and I were driving back from fishing on Saturday and we drove by Bowfort Towers, his reaction was "what the hell is that?" I had to explain to him that it was art, because to the uninitiated, it looks like a pile of garbage welded together on the side of the highway.

Publically funded art can definitely add to public spaces. There is a serious problem with how pieces are chosen though. Should be something like an open competition with the winner chosen by area residents.

So can privately funded art.
When someone is spending their own money, they’ll pick something that they think is worth what they’re spending.
When the government does it it’s like a 12 year old with their allowance at the candy store.
“I’ve got this much to spend.”

Neat stuff. I wonder what it would do in a 120k wind down southern Ab.

That 1st one; if a bird flew into it, it would be plucked and gutted and tenderized in one pass! Mmmmmmm! "Finger licking good!"
