Default Moose Rut

Can I tell you exactly, no, can anyone, I doubt it. The moose rut in Alberta is typically mid Sep to mid Oct but can move a couple of weeks either way depending on countless factors, weather being a major one. A safe bet is Oct. I hunt the first week of Oct every year and north of Athabasca where we go the rut has always been on. Some years stronger than others but still on.

I agree, tough to beat those dates for planning. It can swing early or late, the peak rut portion, but those dates should be dandy if you are in the right spot!

I'll be in the bush those days for sure.

So if you had a moose hunt planned for Thanksgiving, would you try and move it up? We will be hunting north of Vallyview.
I was thinking about trying to call in a moose for Dad.

Thanks
Jamie

Jamie, I'd move it up if you can. We went last year the 13th of Oct....too late. No moose sitings.......nothing! I think the rut was over and everything was laying low recouperating. In my experience and my hunting buds experience the first week of Oct is money. You either hit it at the start, middle or end depending on the year but at least you get a piece of it. IMHO

i grew up !/2 way between Nojack and Whitecourt
ran a trap line up on MT Tom north of Edson
most of my hunting was done in these areas and every year on thanksgiveing week end we could count on finding one or two or more moose in full Rut and breeding cows so if that gives you an idea of when to get after them
well
good luck hope ya git a hug one
