Default Rainbow Trout Advice

Hey,

I will be going to a lake with some nice Rainbow trout in it. I've caught them lots in rivers and streams, but never in a lake.

Just wondering if I should approach the same way as the rivers? with flys, spinners and small spoons?

The lake is Swan Lake.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks.

Those approaches work well, I also like casting and trolling Rapala F5s and some bait under a slip bobber. Stocked trout lakes are generally easy to fish.

I'm a big fan of slip bobbers as well. When shore fishing, I use an iBobber that I have on a heavier rod to find the depth I need to set the slip bobber at. I find the weighted bobbers much easier to cast.

Ive hadgood luck with 1/4ounce lures in gold and silver, rapala f7s in rainbow or brown trout pattern and while I’ve never used them, everyone around me uses a number 2-6 hook with a work and marshmallow and bounce it off the bottom.

The F5 and F7 refer to the lengths. I don't recall what the lengths are, I think the 5 is 2 1/4. In deeper water, you can use the count down, which would be a CD5.

The F5 and CD5 designations are on the top tab of the box.

If you are talking Swan Lake by Valleyview the small rapalas work good. So do silver K7 flatfish 2 feet behind a small gangtroll.

If you are talking Swan lake by Rocky Mountain House good luck with any hook. Hard lake to catch fish.

Good luck.

Little Cleo spoons work well too.

i like to be 100' behind boat to 120'

also a Williams Wobbler then a swivel and a fly or worm using a threader

they also work with a small flatfish or hotshot

spoons trolled or f7 flatfish n bigger hotshots

if big lake fishing and the fish are down then a downrigger works great

lake trolls with worms n ford fenders or small flashers too

if you had side planer boards it helps when trolling

of course the raps work well with casting or trolling

if you anchor then cast n or fly fish(indicator still water) or bobber fish works

don't be shy to experiment with colors for darker or sunny days

as always this is

Food for thought

F5 in rainbow trout or brown trout colors, troll or cast.

Willow leaf and a gob of worm.....
