Unhappy Fishing for small fish around calgary

Hi there, I just moved to calgary from ontario and wanna do some fishing this summer. can anyone tell me where can I go for small fishes like -perch/bass/sun fish/cat fish around calgary & without a boat! I have tried glenmore reservoir/carburn park/eagle lake but no luck!!! Is it only trout/white fish here & fly fishing is the only way out?? I would really appreciate your suggestions, thanks

Hummm maybe a little investigation will bring that Alberta will only have perch on that list , were full of trout , pike , and walleye , Whitefish, of course there's other species but those are what your going to find the most of .

spinning gear will work well on the bow; just takes a little time to find a good hole on the river. if you are in the south, try along where the bike path is by, i think the community is called Cranston - there are a few deep runs there. just make sure you have a few spinners because if you are not tapping along the rocks, you are not deep enough; you might loose a few (gold panther martins are a good place to start)
good luck

closest catfish would be BC .Only perch really for smaller fish besides small stocked rainbows like some of the lakes mentioned. I remember catching sacks of catfish in the lower mainland of BC . There is some bass in BC too , nothing big from what I know. Maybe try some pike action , theres always fun to catch . Chestermere is close or drive out a bit and your choices increase for pike lakes

Um, the bass in bc are extraordinairy my friend!! Caught 5+ largemouth over 7 pounds last summer at my favorite hole, along with some nice sized crappie and a few bullhead. The island has some beautiful, chubby smallmouth as well.

Small fish eh,
Trout: Allen Bill Pond, Chain lakes, Sibbald Pond and Lake, Dewitts Pond, Mclean Pond.
Pike:Chestermere, Dalemead, Carburn(pond closest to Glenmore), Lake Mcgregor
Walleye: Pine Coulee Reservoir, Crawling Valleye Reservoir.
Perch: Cow lake, Chestermere.

Round here if you want lots of lil fellas stick with the trout thats your best bet. Good Luck

Sorry to hijack the thread but if only residents are alowed to fish stocked lakes do the rest of us still pay for the cost of stocking in licence fees etc?? Cause that would sort of seem like a huge pile of horse ***** to me.

LOL

Private lakes and ponds whether in the city or on a farm are paid for by the owners/operators of such lake/pond/dugout.

There is no cost to the taxpayers and there are specific licencing regulations to follow.

I think that it is a great idea to have the private lakes stocked by public money and exclude all but residents.

We need more trout...

We have Cal's vote...anyone else willing to contribute to fall stocking?

A few months ago I pulled a really nice pike out of the northern pond fishing from the SE side. Prior to that had a pike splash chasing minnows 5 feet from me when I was casting on shore, freaked the hell out of me.
