Default Marcum LX-7 Issue

Haven't made it out yet and first time fully charging the LX-7 overnight, on the ice it would not pick up my jig regardless of what setting I adjusted to and was reading bottom intermittingly, higher gains (21-21) gave better results but was unable to pick up my jig or fish on the sonar. No other sonar in the area and battery voltage was high 12-13 on the machine, positioned transducer below hole, in hole an went through every setting. Can anyone confirm similar problem and solution based on experience? I've been on the Marcum sites, google searches, etc.. Is my transducer fubar?

Default Flasher

Make sure your transducer is connected to your flasher it happened to me a couple years ago I thought it was the battery but the connections weren't tight

Have you done the firmware update on the unit? Did mine this year and it works way better than in the past

Yes I ensured the connection was there, removed and retightened. I just came across the firmware update and completed it so hopefully. I do notice the bottom of my transducer to be greyish and I could scrape off build-up of schmag if I tried? I mean I did not ever dry it off or clean the transducer prior to storage. Going out tomorrow morn on CL to see if the firmware update fixed the problem.

I'm going out on Cold Lake also. Going to garnet. I have a marcum lx7 if you see a gray Toyota Tundra drop by and we'll see if we can determine the issue.

It must be plugged in if it is telling him the dept.
It might be on simulation . That would be funny .

No, its not on simulation. Was out and quite excited with the new Firmware update only to have it not even read bottom. Next step is to contact Marcum.

It's your transducer. Had you come to Garnet yesterday we could have figured it out.

The other thing is to ensure you are using the proper depth settings.

I had the same issue with mine, not quite a year after I bought it.. Took it back to the Fishin Hole and they tried everything.... They returned it to Marcum, and within a couple of weeks, I received a new one.... I can assure you , it wasn't the transducer

Don't monkey around. Take it back and have them give you a new one.

Make sure you on the proper depth range for the depth your fishing, example if your fishing 21 feet of water, you need to be running on the 40 foot depth range. Sounds funny but I've seen guys do it, your LX6,7 & 9 won't show anything unless your on the proper range. It just crossed my mind when you said it won't even read the bottom. One other thought is your gain may be set to low, won't return a bottom signal either in that case.

What depth are you in? Have you tried playing with the depth of the transducer? I've found that mine is more accurate in shallow water when the transducer is just skimming the surface of the water.

If you have your settings to auto range you will never have to adjust. It should pick up the bottom at any depth.

I had an LX3 for about 12 years then upgraded to the LX7 for the last 3. Never had an issue with either unit. I guess I'm fortunate I've never had any problems........That being said Vexilar are pretty bullet proof units as well.

Yes I have tried adjusting the depth reading from auto to manual and also increased the gain, pretty much went through the settings. I could scrape off schmag from the bottom of the transducer, going to clean that up and try again this weekend. A new transducer is a $100 plus proposition and it may not even be the problem, I hate to lose it for the season sending it to Marcum.

Sounds like you have tried everything to get er to work so I would take it back as sns2 suggests. Get the place you bought it from to replace it that way you don't lose any fishing time.

Good luck!
