Default Christmas Present

I was still excited after my Christmas Eve 45 inch pike, then Christmas morning after a very cold start to the day I again hooked a very nice pike. lots of powerful runs and some exciting moments trying to get her head started up the hole but in the end I got to make her aquaintance. 44 very fat inches of teeth this time

Beauty back to back pike! What’s your bait setup on that? And do you use the same setup on your tip ups?

I prefer catching big pike on a rod and reel, Ive had issues with line freezing on the reels when I was running braid, so this winter Im using level wind reels with 30 pound mono, so far so good, you just need to keep an eye on your drag because a good pike will break that easily. using a single hook on a heavy fluoro leader, with the single hook all my hookups are in the corner of the fishes mouth and easy to get out.

How do you attach the bait using the single hook?

I hook my bait in the back of the head so the hook point faces the front of the bait, when they turn the bait to swallow it headfirst all you have to do is tighten your line and they usually hook-up. Ive tried circle hooks and octopus hooks, they both work ok.

Never mind a 10" hole Wayne ..... just bring a chain saw for a hole if you are going to make fish like that a habit for you !!!!!

Nice.

awesome fish!
i only run single red gamakatzus 4/0 or so now too

i find its better conservation, thise quickstrike rigs arent fun to deal with, i think i only fished them for 2 seasons way back in the day

i find with 30 lb pline that the fish dont chew threw it, and ya dont lose too many with the single hook either
