Default New to Fishing - Two Questions

Hi guys,

I'm new to fishing and looking to learn more about catching suckers and perch. I understand the North Sask River has a substantial sucker population, does anybody know a good spot to look for them? Advice on rigs, lures, bait etc. is most welcome.

For perch, I was told that Devil's Lake has a few. Since I don't have a fish finder, I've been going off the depth charts and trying to feel my way around the dropoffs. Does anyone have suggestions for summer perch fishing?

Thanks in advance.

Suckers Galore in the River. I used to catch a bunch at Hermitage park with a carolina rig and night crawler. All kind of different suckers there.

I'm not sure if Devils is a good spot to look for perch anymore. But if you do find a lake with perch... look deeper in these hot summer months and if you find a hump somewhere in the lake try that, might be some dandies on it.

Yes suckers are ubiquitous throughout the river and I have caught some huge ones in the spring runoff season. Just a worm on a size 2 octopus hook with a 1oz weight and you're good to go. Make sure the bait is resting on the bottom though, best way to ensure that is using a 3-way swivel, one line going to the sinker to be about 20cm, and the line going to the hook should be about 50cm.
