That is the question that will have as many opinions as there are members. The proper calibre choice has everything to do with what you plan on using it for. Also, what you are comfortable with, accuracy should factor in a lot more than a couple extra inches in drop at 500 yards.

To what range? That would definitely change at different ranges.

Default 7mm rem mag

I have owned a few 7mm rem mags, in various guns and i love it shoots very well! as for the numbers game im not sure, and frankly i cant shoot good enough to make a difference anyway! So even if i had the best gun out of the box i dont know if it would do me much good hahaha

I like a rifle I can shoot all day and not develop a flinch. Accurate, reliable, consistant.
I use a .308 and a .303 brit.

Is there something that runs flatter than the 284 Lazzaroni?

Not much flatter but there are a few crazy wildcats out there that would give the Lazz. a run for its money, the 6 x 284 and the .257 Ferguson Hot Tamale would be a couple examples...

.300 wsm gets my vote!! Thats my 2 cents but she is pretty much plug and play till about 350 yards good for anything the average hunter needs!! Oh and anything built by savage in this calibre gets my vote!!

You can pick up a Cooper 6 x 284 from Prophet River in Lloydminster or Corlane's in Dawson, I am ordering one.

Max range?
Intended purpose?
Factory ammo?
Reloads?
Budget?

Answer those first.

Out of the box, I haven't seen anything in any of the (trajectory) tables that can beat it.

If you go into WSS Edmonton their (the guy at the counter that day) opinion is the .257 Weatherby Magnum, which doesn't even hit top speed until 400 yards out! Amazing rifle!

So you say the .270wsm is a deer gun does that mean you think the 7mmREM Mag is a deer gun?
Sure they both are good for deer but they hit more than hard enough to kill ANYTHING in north america.

Which more than qualifies for asking to differentiate between the two.

So how flat shooting are your out of the box rifles? Got something useful to add?

Exactly, the topic is still rifles,he has not yet mentioned handloads or factory ammunition.

As to my flattest shooting rifles, they were chambered in the 7mmstw,the 257wby,the 300RUM,and the 7mmRUM,all which are available in factory rifles.

As the range increases, the larger calibers have the advantage. The .50 Browning and cartridges based on that case are hard to beat for really long ranges.
