Default 6.5-06?

I may be looking for a line on a reamer for one. Does anyone know who has one and does anyone have an opinion on the cartridge itself? Thanks.

I think when my .270 barrel is done that's the next one I am going to have spun on that action.

I think that is is an outstanding cartridge....added benefit of the multitude of high BC .264 bullets to load.

Sounds like fun. What would be its built-for purpose and what bullet would you shoot?

I ran one on a No.1 action for a while some years back, great cartridge, easy to load for .
I know more than a few guys who think wildcats like that are great because you can use pick-up brass from the range!!

personally Chuck, I think you would be the type of guy to buy new bras and neck it instead of picking up once fired stuff and trying to work with it.
Myself, I see no reason to mess with range brass in a rifle I spent some good coin on to get a wildcatted chamber , but some guys don't mind ....

I'd probably use 25-06 brass or if I was feeling flush Lapua 30-06 stuff.

It would be a coyote/long range fun rifle.

I necked up 25/06 brass when I was shooting mine, worked fantastic.
i might do up another one of these dyas, but I would have to buy another reamer, mine disappeared along with the gunsmith!!

That's the best you could come up with? Pick out a bullet yet or do you not think that far in advance?

I am planning a hunting rifle build on this cartridge. Should be just a touch faster than the 6.5-284. It will go in an action that it actually fits.

I also have a 30-06 that is going to be converted to either 6.5-06 or 8mm-06. Fence sitting on this one.

Ackley version will be quicker than 6.5-284, for sure. I built the AI with an RKS 22-11 gain twist. It won't stabilize 140's but shoots 133 / 135 gr bullets.

I've only been shooting mine for several weeks, but wow am I impressed. Tiny groups at 300 using 123gr SMK. A stout load of H4831SC and kissing the lands, tightened things up nicely.

I don't have a chrono but I suspect it's clipping along quicker than I expected because it's surprisingly flat out to 400.

I can't see the need for a long action to fling a 123 grain bullet at moderate speeds, when a 6.5 Lapua will do it all, better, in a short action.
My hatred for all things 06 is well documented, so no need for the hurt feelers.
If a fella wanted real speed for a 6.5, neck down a 7mm Shamwow, or 7mm WSM. If that same fella had a long action, in a non magnum bolt face, and was grooving on a fast 123 grain bullet, he might want to take advantage of all of that length and get efficient. And efficient is the one of the things that the 06 will never provide.
Again, I think my bestest friend Chuck knew this when he posted.
How's the fishing, Chuck?

Start thinking in terms of a .308 Norma, as its the best thing that could ever happen to an 06 chamber. Neck that up to 8mm, and sh&t gets serious very quickly.
